Here is something I threw together on a time delay, a remote is not used.

Pretty good just need to mess with it more to get the timing right... what time delay are you using that has 4 channels? I have seen them out there however they start at around 27 bucks or so.

Hello mrmetropolis, Yes the timing could be more accurate - I literally only practiced a handful of times, if I put this in my act I will make it perfect. You can use the ever popular Audrino, they are not really that hard to program. There are other methods out there but this is one of the simplest. If you have an offstage assistant you can always use a four channel transmitter/receiver.

It's a nice idea. Maybe if it was synchronised with music, it would be easier to perfect the timing.
If I was doing it with timers I would use 555 circuits which are much cheaper and easier than an Arduino.

This is a great idea... I really like it... Thank you for sharing, and also posting your other videos... I see we have similar ideas....

No Problem hestonsmagic, glad to hear we like the same type of magic. I am working in my spare time on a re-creation of the Dr. Hooker's Floating Bear Head in a large bell jar and the Hooker's Any Card Called For effects, this version will have jumbo cards which can be fully shown, placed in holder, then in bell jar. The selected card will slowly rise, can be repeated with any other card. This was always a pet project of mine to do, since only a few people actually know how Dr. Hooker created this effect ( I am not one of them ), I am creating this wonderful effect with electronics which I am certain was not the original method. A few years back I built several electronic Any Card Called For in a magic table top, this was remote operated via an infra-red tracking system, any card called for has been a fascination of mine for over 30 years.

Here's a cool link to a totally electronic table I built about a year or so ago - there is ALOT going on here including LED's - actuators, radio control, time delays, card fountains, etc. I built this from the ground up - the table will literally carry an adult when moving - it is that strong, lined with heavy cabinet carpet. I used it several times infront of a live audience and they fell in love with it.

Yeah, I'm starting to get into Audrino's... I wanna start with the inventors kit and learn about everything it can do first. I've been looking at the code and it does seem easy enough. The possibilities are endless with this beautiful device. My plan is to use the Uno as a test bed and once the code/setup is the way I want it put the final product on a Lilly pad or pro mini, depending on my setup.

I've done plenty with rf remotes and am getting burnt out/tired of them, you have to still activate the remote in some way which can be a disadvantage.
Yeah, I saw that table when you originally posted it. The table is pretty cool. I have plans for a table, totally different however. I will be building it from scratch since there is nothing out there that meets my needs. I have a major project I'm finishing up, already 7 months into the build probably 2 months left, not to mention side projects, ugh, before I can get to it. I seem to fall into the liking of effects where the method is more interesting than the effect. I also like to build my own stuff. I got a mini MD because falls into that category and it is something I can't build. :-( The orange tree is in that category as well.

I finally figured out what I'm doing in my last day of electronics at school tomorrow. Nice Work.

Thanks Greg, I had a blast building it - You can see me perform this and other cool effects in a haunted castle. The lights were a little too bright when the LED'S were on but you can see a glare.
The floating sphere and haunted candle are really cool, they are not CGI, they are from my actual stage show I use around Halloween. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se_JwDlTuvA Chuck |
