Not familiar with the umpires pouch (good idea... guess you could find one of those in a sports supply store eh?) here's another thought:
I was in home depot yesterday (putting together a new tabletop) and I ran across some workers tool-belts that look like they'd be useful (there was a wide variety... I was in a bit of a rush and didn't look real close, but it seemed like many of them would work well as a poachers pouch.) next, Conn |

Good one Pete, thanks for the link.
Now, who's gonna try this out? (and risk being berated by the Gaz-meister for doing it wrong!?!) Since we're playing link-info.... Here's another ball/holding/hiding thingamagig (for those that wear jackets and don't want to fill their pockets) a tennis ball holder: http://www.tennislovers.com/index2.htm?C......ders.htm next!, Doug Conn |

Doug.. I like the ball clip but how do you buy 'em on this site? I found no "buy" link (only on the underwear).

Not sure how to use that site (I Just picked it as an example.) I found my 'tennis ball clip' at a local sports store... FYI: google has more links: "tennis ball holder, clip" is what I searched for.
FYI#2: I use it to hold an eight ball (for Bannon's "Trick Shot Production" from his 'Smoke and Mirrors') ... good trick (shhh, don't tell.) I've said to much already Conn... gone. |

I wonder if those things could hold an orange?

Looks like it could hold an orange. What a wonderous thing. Of course it does lead me to believe that magicos do take everything and anything to help weave the stuff that we do.

I made my own pouch based on Cellini instructions which I found in his book "The Royal Touch" made from thick ply leather this is built to last, and a real pleaser to work with because I made it. It did not come cheap $180. I do use Gazzo cups together they look smart.

Another important point is you get what you pay for. If you buy something not specifically made for the job it may not do it very well or at all. You pays your money, you takes your chances.

That's a good point Kevin, mine is mine and there is not one like it in the world. Even though I followed Cellini's instructions, I tweeked it to my own show, right down to my name being stamped on the belt.
I have to admit Gazzo's pouch is smarter, but I love mine. Mario :goof: |

Hi Mario,
there's nothing like a piece of equipment you've customized personally. I've got this gibeciere designed to take my close-up stuff and it's really very personal depending on what you carry, where you want it, your 'moves' and what clothes you want the satchel to go with. Having said that, I'll probably go through two or three versions over the next few years to get it in its optimal form. Also, aside from the cost of the leather, it takes a fair while to stitch them by hand - but when you've done it yourself to your specifications it's great. I think Gazzo's stuff is great in as much as the hard work's already done - it's customized for the effect and he's thought it out over twenty years, but even so it's nice to add your own touches depending on what you want to do and how you want to do it. Enjoy the magic.

All I can add is that I've seen Gazzo make one of his bags. It takes him two or three full days, and he has to wash his hands every hour or two so the leather stain doesn't soak into his hands and stain them for performing. He works hard at it, making it look good and sturdy to last a lifetime. He was showing me the finer points of leather work on his current bag and I couldn't tell the difference. That's how picky he is.

Yep, there's a lot of work in it. Mario's pointing out the sheer cost of good leather. Then there's the time to stitch (when he could probably be doing something more profitable) and development Gazzo's put in. Plus, hey, they're made by Gazzo and automatically a collector's item. I've no doubt they're worth every penny.

Just found a great pouch/gibeciere. Got it for $13 - going to have it dyed black. Right size, right depth, right pocket opening.
Got mine from a store here in LA but here's a link so you can see it: http://www.acehardware.com/product/index......=1334340 |

These are fine if you only want to hold a few items, but they won't hold six oranges and a melon like Gazzo's pouch will.

I don’t do Gazzo’s cups and balls routine. But the pouch is plenty big for regular cup and ball final loads. I just dyed mine black, (I’ll report back how the suede dye holds) $9 for the dye, $13 for the pouch. $22 out the door for a large tough leather pouch.

You have to be very careful what kind of dye you use on your pouches. The very first pouches I had were made of deer hide that was dyed with a water soluble dye. The people who made them were used to making purses and did not realize that the pouches were quite likely to get wet in the rain when I was working the Texas Renaissance Festival.
I had to turn them inside out and soak them with water many many times to get rid of the excess dye. Then I had to coat them with several coats of acrylic. It took six weeks to finally get them cured. The pouches I have now were made by Wolfgang Hengst. I will put photos up sometime. They have snap-off covers so I can go walkabout without the house apes reaching into my pockets.

Gazzo made me a pouch. I went and bought the leather with him, watched him cut and stitch for a few days.
If you look at what Gaz is making per hour compared to what he makes in a show, it's well worth it. I have had mine for 10 years and is still going strong. Nick p.s. Gazzo, If that's your last one you should sell it for a $1000. |
