I use a length of dowel that I bought from B&Q for 67p. Then I varnished it with oak varnish from the £1 Shop to make it look nice.
I also have another one that is the same except I used gold paint instead of varnish. Neither has damaged the cups nor the ceramic bowl if I'm doing the benson bowl. |

Porper wands, by far are the nicest. The Moonlight Magic wands from RNT2 come in a nice second. I always recommend wood tips, so they don't damage the cups--and most high quality wands are weighted in the tips for optimum balance.

I placed an order through jazzysnazzymagic.com after being referred by a few different individuals, and after having exchanged emails with Bruce Fenton, the craftsman. I was sold on a number of different features. Quality wood, weighting in the tips, different asthetic customizations (I requested grooves on the end, as opposed to tips with different wood), and mostly, I found it very cool that these wands are designed elliptical-shaped instead of round. This prevents the wand from rolling away when you set it down. Others have told me that they love the wands, and that the slight elliptical shape in no way hinders standard wand moves, spins, etc..

The reason is that I don't like the wand screwing together for ring on the stick. Don Alan also used a dowl rod for a wand in his sponge ball and bowl routine. His dowl rod wand was short - the reason was the way he did the sponge ball vanish - in his bowl routine. By the way I do use my wand (dowl rod) with a sponge ball and bowl routine. Cheers!

I told you guys I would post a pic of the wand I had made. The gold-colored grooves are gold leaf. The wand itself is walnut.

I use a timbales stick (different from a drumstick since it's symmetrical, doesn't have the pointy end the drumstick has) wrapped up in black tape (the one electricians use) which is soft and has a nice grip. it also prevents the wood from chipping as I beat the hell out of my cups

I use a Chinese chopstick. In the pic attached below, it's the top ones. They're the best ones, but Google the images for "chopstick" and you'll see a beautiful variety!

A WOODEN DOWEL BEVELED AT BOTH ENDS AND LIGHT, EASIER TO DO FLIPSTICK ROUTINES, AND THE END BEVELING IMPROVES RING ON WAND MOVES.
