Hopefully I can get some help with this. Does anyone have suggestions on how to minimize / eliminate the flash of the coin getting into and out of Tenkai? Up to this point I have been relying on heavy misdirection a la Paul Cummings, but I know there has got to be a way to eliminate it totally. Some help would be appreciated.

In Sankey-tized vol. 2 Jay Sankey teaches two ways to do this. I think you may want to check that out.

Actually, Paul Cummings in the "Up in Smoke" video talks a lot about how to minimize the flash when he discusses the move. about exactly how to rotate the hand and around what axis.
Sankey does not talk about this in his videos but Sankey does have other routines and switches and things you can do with the move. If you're a coin kind of guy then Revolutionary Coin Magic is great and has those extras. If you're not so into coins, then Sankeytized II is a great video for coins/cards/etc and shows the move but does not have the other applications. So, revisit the Cummings video if that's what you've got and even when you're done.... use should still be using misdirection anyway. If your audience is looking at your open hand, direct them to your other hand and look up at their eyes when you do the move. Regardless, that should be happening anyway. Don't drop the misdirection part.

One tip that I usually do: when I doing the pinch and showing the palm up, I use my left hand finger to point and use the index finger to cover the flash (if there's any). Anyways that only happens when pinching a large coin and that just happen for a second or two. You don't need to open the palm for too long.

It may be because of my great height, (5'5")
I find lowering my hand helps. Of course doing in a gazillion times since the mid 70's doesn't hurt either. If you are using it as part of a routine if something is happening with the other hand it couldn't hurt. It’s similar to using the Curry Turnover. I like to use the move right handed, as something else is happpening with the left hand. Just my two liberty halves worth. Harris

I have some great ideas with the pinch. I am putting them on video right now, to share them with you all.
Just some ways to use the pinch for some very clean switches and displays. Chad |
