WOW, and seriously not a good wow- in fact, the most gigantic "I thought I had heard it all from this guy" wow. I'm referring, of course, to his statement that he has no desire to lie to anyone (this, after he just repeated the same lie he's been telling forever). There's story telling, which would describe most magicians of the world who are fine with calling themselves illusionists, and then there's bold-faced lying- Uri Geller all along.

Yes, he gets it.
Those of us with long memories (and/or have reached a certain age, like me) know exactly what he means. |

After all of us are gone Uri Geller will go down in our history as one of the, if not
the greatest mentalists of all time, regardless of how those here feel about him! Wishing everyone well and a long life. DB

I have a pretty good working knowledge of Uri Geller's career from the early 1970s to the present day. I agree with those who have said that freefallillusion doesn't 'get it'. If he wishes to attack and denigrate Uri Geller, he's free to do so. As R. W. Emerson wrote, "To take apart is the art of those who cannot construct."On 2012-06-05 06:09, Riley wrote:

[/quote] It was never my intention to speak for everyone - clearly nobody can do that. It is not merely a question of age and memory. Uri Geller will always have his supporters, and there will also be those who disagreed with his claims then and now, (James Randi and the late Billy McComb spring to mind). It is not a question of technique at all - sleight of hand is sleight of hand. Claims made by any performer are something else entirely. Your quote by Emerson seems to give the impression that anyone who doesn't share your viewpoint "cannot construct". I prefer this one: I do not resent criticism, even when, for the sake of emphasis, it parts for the time with reality. Winston Churchill (1874-1965) |

"Your quote by Emerson seems to give the impression that anyone who doesn't share your viewpoint 'cannot construct'." I was not commenting on whether anyone shares my viewpoint. Your interpretation bears no relation to what I actually wrote. If you read what I actually wrote, I was commenting specifically on those who choose to 'attack and denigrate' Uri Geller.

I remember running to the tv or radio when I was a kid to hear his lastest knowing that he was magician. Even when the specialist came on saying he was "real" I just figured they where all part of the show. What I could never figure out was the amount of people calling in after a live radio show saying their watches where working and things where bent. I just figured the "lie" was part of what it took to be succesful in that venue.
I do a fork bending routine with a method done in a way I've never seen and love when people say it brings him to mind.

I saw a video several years later, once I had become a budding magician. My reaction was, and still is, pure amazement that this guy was able to boldly lie to the world and seemingly get a free pass (again, I say lie, and not story-tell like virtually every legitimate magician- that's what some people posting here don't seem to "get"). |
