Neale,
I second Tom's book whole-heartedly. Tom's not only a daycare performer, but he owns a daycare. I also recommend The Great Zucchini’s DVD. Tom and Eric (TGZ) are both Café members and always very willing and generous with their help and advice. - B.H. |

I have Tom Boleware's book and highly recommend it.
I have heard much about Dave Risley as well regarding the Day Care Market but haven't seen his videos firsthand. Here's a link to his products though: http://www.daverisley.com/products.html Posted: Jun 1, 2012 12:03am And The Great Zucchinni is a master in this field. He has a lot to offer. He's got a very original approach that works for him and he's generous with his ideas and advice. |

Absolutely, thanks guys. You can also call me, or as I've said in the past, come to town, and I'd be happy to have anyone follow me around for a weekend. I have 45 shows booked in June, and you can come to a private or public show, and we can chill afterward. I love giving advice in this area. Guys, over 90 percent of my calls, they say, "we want you, specifically". They aren't cold calling. They know me, and ask for me 95 percent of the time, and if they haven't heard of me, which is rare, I say, "are you new to the area?' Use this, it shows that you're so well known, that you'd have the gull(lol) to ask them that. Most of the time, they say, how did you know?. I say, it's rare, if someone doesn't know who I am. We laugh.
This is an area, you'll see me chime in a lot on. Don't buy a thing. I'm all out of dvds at the moment anyway. If you want a serious tutorial, I won't charge a thing, you come hang out in Dc, and I will show you the light. Fool, David, thanks fellas. David, I know you're coming soon to hang, right. |

I would like to visit you again. Why don't you call me when you and David get together, because I would love to meet David. I feel that both of you can really help my show.

Hey Al, no doubt, let's really set that up this summer. You're avatar, btw, is awesome. David, I understand, but the 3 of us could cause some trouble out here, for sure.

Hey Bill, yep, just let me know. I told James Munton, owner of the bistro, and a friend, that getting to know people in this buis. is rather a new thing. I've been performing 15 years, but just decided this past year to get to know other performers, because it's fun to interact with people that do the same thing that you do. Bill, do you have family in Maryland? Email me a head of time, and I will let my clients know I'm bringing a friend. Gz
Posted: Jun 2, 2012 9:07am Hey Guys, most people probably don't want to give up their weekends to come down. It's cool if you want to come during the week, also. Every single day in July, I'm booked at a preschool camp, or public show of some sort. |

Thanks for the link and kind words everybody. I appreciate it.
If I can be of help, (if you buy my book or not) just let me know. Honestly, as for as learning material, I suggest you get all you can afford. Don't depend on one book or one dvd to teach you everything you need to know about the business. Look at different styles and learn different approaches. Besides, you never learn all you need to know about kids. I've owned a daycare center since 1996, 16 years, and I still have much to learn about the little ones. I've heard nothing but good about Eric, so yes you do need to check out his stuff. Both Dave Risley and Samuel Patrick Smith are older pros that's done thousands of daycare shows, they understand the business well. While much of their material may be dated, it's still worth reading if you get a chance. Tom

May just have to rent out the center and kids to one of you younger guys for the project, making it The Complete DVD Series. I bet I have the only daycare center in the world equipped with a stage (small platform) built just for magic. Tom

Hey Eric, yes my brother lives in Frederick. Usually when I travel from Va to Denny's for a lecture, after the lecture I drive down and spend the night with my brother....
This would definitely be a fun trip to hang out with you for a day.... |

Bill, no doubt, I haven't been to Denny's in ages. Does he still have that pet pig? Frederick is about 45 minutes from me, so just let me know, coffee is on me, man. Tom, I haven't seen your book, but by your posts, and the fact that you've owned a daycare for so long, I know you have the goods.
I taught preschool for 14 years, before I started this and as you know, nothing teaches you the psycology of how to entertain the youngsters, like being in a classroom. I've been doing this full time for over a decade, but I have some amazing memories, with the kids and staff that I taught. Gz |

Eric, I thought I had read somewhere that you worked in preschool years ago. That explains a part of your success in the business.
Kids can spot the fun teacher a mile away. You right, being in a classroom every day is a great learning experience for both the student and the teacher. My book is an older book, but in it I try to give the reader a feeling of what goes on in daycare. The main purpose of the book is to prepare the magician so they don't have to walk in blind. As you know, daycare people tend to stick together and had rather listen to those within the family. Much like magicians do, they sort of have their own language. Learning to speak that language can put you ahead of the rest. I'm more or less retired now, but I still go to the daycare every day. All the kids call me Pawpaw, been doing that since we opened. We are a large center for the area, averaging about a hundred kids all the time, but we still like to give the parents that family type feeling. Trust is very important when dealing with small kids. Most all our advertising has been word of mouth. We've really been blessed in the business. Eric, if you do happen to ever come through this way, do stop by. I would love chatting magic and kids with you. Keep up the good work and keep creating memories for the kids. And always remember these words I'm sure you've read many times, "One hundred years from now It will not matter What kind of car I drove, What kind of house I lived in, How much I had in my bank, Nor what my clothes looked like. One hundred years from now It will not matter What kind of school I attended, What kind of computer I used, How large or small my church, But the world may be a little better because.....I was important in the life of a child." Tom
