Hello there
I've finished reading the genius book "Maximum Entertainment" by Ken Weber. I loved it because he doesn't teach tricks and he doesn't not write too much theory either. The book is good because he gives us Real World Advices. And I was wondering... There're any other books like this? If yes, please post the name and the author! Thank you very much! |

For a single book that covers the whole of the performance side of magic and mentalism, Maximum Entertainment is the best I've ever read.
If you are interested in adding comedy to your act, I highly recommend Stand Up by Ian Keable. Geoffrey Durham's Professional Secrets alternates advice/theory chapters with routines. The author is one of the most experienced stage performers in the UK, so even though the advice chapters are only half the book, it is one of the best books available for solid, real world performance advice. Strong Magic is very interesting but aimed much more at the close-up performer. I'm not aware of Darwin Ortiz ever doing a stage act. |

Something that makes me really sad is the fact that The secret art of magic (by Evans and craver) is not known to the masses.
It is a wonderful book on the art of busking and the art of misdirection (it's actually two separate books). I think it's out of print though. |

Though it is not specifically for magicians, I just finished reading Stage Performance by Livingston Taylor (available at Amazon). This is basically his class notes from a semester teaching his stage performance class at Berklee College of Music. Most of everything he discusses can be applied to stage magic (or any type of stage performance for that matter). He talks about stage fright, your appearance, how to carry yourself on stage, how to connect with your audience, etc., etc. A wonderful book I would recommend to anyone wanting to be a better stage performer. Plus it is a fairly quick read (until you really start studying it ).
Best, Sandy |

Also check out "Real World Magic", by Jerry MacGregor. I'm not sure why more people don't have this book.
