Hi, I am new here.
I don't mean Loops or ITR. , but how do you guys carry your I.T. ? I'll use Steve Fearson Hookup, but I may do Leclair Hookup as well. (but Steve Fearson always come first) Is attaching both ends of the thread to your body the only solution ? I want it always be ready. I have both DVD of MLS by Steve Fearson and "Who's Afraid of Invisible Thread" , but they haven't taught me how to carry it out the street ( or I miss) |

Fearson goes over several on the MLS DVD.
While I've moved from static lines to ITR's predominately, I still use them here and there. I've used: Straws/Coffee Stirrers Hotglue sticks Embroidery thread cards (ask your grandma or crafter in your family) But... bar none the most useful way I've found has already been recommended. I wear glasses often and like to when performing with I.T. have it attached to them with some wax. Stays out of the way and easy to get to. Hope that helps.

Myself, I wrap it around a pencil, taped on both ends. I carry two, one as a backup.

I have a little mini kit for holding my reels and I use very small squares of playing cards to have multiple individual lengths ready to go, with the wax already attached. They're taped in place and staggered in such a way that I can tear each out individually, undo the lead end and just drop it to let it unravel. So reset after a thread breaks just takes a few seconds of stepping out of the spectator's view. When I'm using my ITRs I always have two hooked up so if one breaks I have a backup ready to go.

I have different kinds of IT, EIT and different lengths of these threads on bobbin spools. I get small dot labels at WalMart to label them with. The was ends are attached to each side, and a put the side I have to unwine from on the label side. I find it helps to get small plastic bags from a coin shop to keep them in individually so the was won't come of in your pocket. You can actually carry several of the kinds and lengths of thread you want about your person. I have several of the Infinity threads spools on me because that is a really fast hookpup to do, and then you can float a dollar bill anywhere.

These spools are very inexpensive. You can get metal or plastic. I have both, but I refer the clear plastic ones. They are cheaper and you can see the thread on them easier. When you finished with a thread, it is easy to rewind it.
I have tried Wasp, but I am finding I like the bobbins spools better. Also, Web Spinner is good. I am still learning to use it. |

The original question may have been missed. Probably because it is obvious to those with more experience. (Or maybe I'm just being dense, it happens alot.) I too am new to IT and have a lot of work ahead before I am ready to use these methods out in the wild. Since I have just been working this out for myself I will chime in. Perhaps those with more experience can add to my description or improve my method.
As I understand it the question is: "How do you deal with a length of IT that has wax on both ends so you can get it into play quickly?" The answers given have all been correct but perhaps not explicit enough for the beginner: You have to wind it around something such as a card, pencil, non-tensioned spooler as described in MLS, Web Spinner etc. I will describe my solution with the Web Spinner since that is what I intend to use. But this will work the same with any thing you wind the IT around. Preparation: 1) Starting with wax on the free end, strip out a strand. 2) Attach wax to the source end of the strand. 3) Sever the strand between wax and source 4) Attach wax to the spooling device/object. 5) Wind the IT around the object. (I like to wind with no overlaps so it can be unwound from either direction.) 6) Attach the second wax to the opposite end as the first. 7) Place in jacket pocket (or other storage area). Use: 1) Steal first wax. 2) Extend and unspool. (This may be where you make the crucial move to get into Fearson's hook-up followed by the attach.) 3) Steal the second wax. And away you go. Obviously the setup must be done in private (but with the web spinner is quick.) It may be possible to set up two windings on one spinner in order to have a spare but I haven't tried that yet.

Spider pen and loop around the left wrist. Get the bill signed, switch pens and then entrust the pen to a spectator "as we will need it later..." placing it in his breast jacket pocket for immediate outer hooking... Then quick loop effect (as obliteration parenthesis for the pen positioning) then W fold on bill and Steve Fearson's hooking of borrowedd ring. Then get the spider pen back (it was said that we would need it later and needs to be justified) and animate it with the loop

In terms of preparation, I'm just walking around with the set-up. I haven't tried walking around with the Fearson's hookup yet, but for the LeClaire's hookup, one end is attached to one of my shirt buttons (either a button shirt or polo-T). When I need it, just grab it and its good to go. And yes, I've tried walking around all day it in just to get used to it.
While different in purpose from the WebSpinner, I think Fearson's thread bullet is also worth looking at. I have not gotten round to using it yet.... so many things to experiment and practice with. haha! |

I usually use Amazing JoeJoe's Web Spinner - a simple but fantastic device! I also picked up a handful of Steve Fearson's Thread Bullets. These are great! They are supplied with about 40' of thread and can anchor one end and get you into your routine very fast.

Many here have already suggested my Web Spinner because it was invented to solve the very problem you present. On the new DVD for it, I talk about this very subject - making thread work practical. I share a lot of real-world advice on how to work thread on the pitch, the little things that make the big difference. The Harlem Hookup, I think that's what it's called, from Ammar's series looks like it's a pretty practical application of loose IT that you can walk around with, out of the way, ready to go. I never see it mentioned. It might especially be interesting if you like working with Loops at all.

That would be the Harlan hookup, as Ammar christened it, since he was shown it by Dan Harlan who used it in an effect called (I Believe) financial attraction.
It uses elastic thread wich means that the thread is always stretched taut. Using it with unelastic thread means that the thread would hang loose, and due to the nature if the hookup I don´t Think that it would be as practical as for instance the Fearson or LeClair hookups. Mikael Johansson Sweden
