A group of fun loving young people came into the bar about two or three weeks back. I had just come back from a SAM meeting during which a friend had recommended doing a bill and lemon once. Pretty sure he said "A lot of people don't do it. It takes some prep, but the reactions are phenomenal."
I do John Carney's fruit cup, which is an improvised ball and cup routine with a crumpled up dollar bill and a lemon(lime). I yelled out to the group "Got a dollar?" To which they responded "...? What do you need a dollar for?" "I'll entertain you." Thankfully the role of bartender gives me some clout with the customers. In this one instance, I did a bill to lime routine. This was the final step in mastering the improvised chop cup routine. Somehow I gained something from practicing this in the bar, its ready to be used, I'm moving on to the next thing. Metaphorically, its like a blade sharpened and stored. I'll move next to the sponge ball mystery. Incidentally, I was asked by a pushy young cook/dishwasher who always smiles to perform magic for one of my co-workers. Whether it was pearls before swine or some kind of bad luck, the trick finished improperly with the lime falling out of my hand, ruining the trick. ~Nick |
