I am doing this for fun. Maybe you could try it also.
Try making a complete show from effects in Fulves Self-Working Mental Magic or some other quite well-known book. The aim is not to perform as Fulves has written, for example. Instead take a few effects and use your own presentations to make routines that fit your persona. But try to restrict yourself to the effects in one book. Today I was going over the old material and found a nice slate routine that could be presented in quite a different way (not using a slate and not looking like a mathematics problem!) It might be fun for those with the book to work out a set of routines that fit into a show. Even just for here. Discuss! |

I keep meaning to do something like this. The key is to strip the effect down to its bare essential mechanism, to study it in as much detail as possible, then use that information to build it back up in your own image.

Great idea. I'm going to try that now.

I like the idea: take self-working tricks, strip to essentials, re-build as true, modern, mental wonders!

There have certainly been times when I've been wracking my brains over a method (I often have at least a rough idea of the presentation in mind before worrying about how to actually achieve it) and a quick visit to Corinda has worked wonders.
This seems like a very interesting approach, even just as an intellectual exercise. T. |
