Venus is going across the sun, and is visible as a black, small, disc, moving across the sun. If you see this topic, go here:
http://venustransit.nasa.gov/webcasts/nasaedge/ for a live webcast of it. Apparently, this is a once-in-a-lifetime event.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

I watched some of it. It was interesting. It is something that none of us that are on this forum will see again.

It is only a once in a lifetime event if you are planning on dying in the next 105 years. Personally I have no such plans. I have a lot of faith in clean living and modern medicine.
Having said that, it is a wonderful opportunity to see the cosmos in a new way.
