Hi all,

Some years ago I learnt a sequence from what I think to be Magic Magazine, for the Oil and Water plot. It was a bold move, where 3 reds and 3 blacks are displayed to be separate in 2 small fans; they are squared up and can then, upon respreading, be shown to have immediately interlaced. To put it simply, methodologically you are really doing what the effect is.

I do use this in my own routine, but simply cannot remember the name of the creator. Would really appreciate it if someone has read that routine and can recall the name of the magician. Many thanks in advance!

If it's the sequence I think you're talking about, it was Marlo's.

Hi Justin, thanks for the reply.

Are you referring to the separation sequence? I've heard it being referred to on one of Joshua Jay's videos.

However, the one I'm referring to from the magazine was one that interlaced the cards.

The Marlo move Justin mentions was taught both in the magazine and in the Talk about Tricks DVD.

It was unpublished, someone please correct me if I am wrong, my Marlo himself, but he did teach it to Bill Malone.
Bill was eventually persuaded to tip the method to Josh who, with blessing, published it in the magazine.

You really do mix the two packets. However you must then spread the cards showing that they are mixed. Half a second later they are
separated. It really is quite startling. I saw Josh perform it 3 or 4 times in a row and I didn't have a clue how it was done.

The routine it is used in is constructed so that as the two packets are mixed, the spectator is suspicious that perhaps something has been done,
thus the justification of turning them face up and showing that they are really mixed.

Hey Ruairidh!

Thanks for the clarification. That is truly a great sequence in the right hands.

I'm still open to anyone who has seen the move whose credits I'm searching for, where the colours instantly interlace (via a covert meshing-type of move).

Keep the posts coming! Smile
