Most purchased illusions for this routine I've seen have a section with instructions for building a loader. (I've even seen some old sets that had a very nice loader all carved out and painted up.)
You can take a look around and see what there is out there or you can just do it manually; it's tedious work but it is doable with a little bit of experimentation. Good luck to ya! |

Look in Bill Elliot's clasic secrets of magic, he shoews how to wind the thread.

Greetings Asgar;
As one who does this effect on a regular basis, maybe I can help. 1st. The blades with the slot running down the center will almost always tangle the thread and surely at the most in-opertune time. Track down a German made blade "Pajarito 155". This blade does not have the slot running down the center, instead it has three holes. You can also find some other brands with the three holes on the web. 2nd. If you are like me and dull down a real set of blades instead of the mylar plastic copies, you will want to make sure that there are no snags to catch the thread and especially your lip. I take my time with a series of files and a small belt sander (upright style with emery cloth belt fine grit) to take the sharpness off, then I work on the blades with the files until they could not cut anything. This is important since they are going in the mouth. 3rd. You will want to make a loading jig, this is a simple little piece of wood with two nails sticking up so the blades are placed over the nails the center hole has no nail, the thread is then lightly wrapped around the nails until it comes to the next blade which goes over the nails and holds the thread in place underneath. this is repeated over and over until your set is strung ready to be tossed in the mouth for production. 4th. If you have ever fished for the start thread to pull, this might help also. Tie a couple knots, one on top of the other over and over until you have a thick knot that you can find by feel. That is what you grab and start pulling. I take a small ball of magicians wax and stick this knot to the flat side near the end of my stack, so I know where it should be at all times, if it comes loose, then the knot is easier to find than a single thread. Hope that helps some All the Best Marty |

Since I think this thread about thread is a little risky I'll up it. Fake blades? Dull blades? Are you ninnies? Use them straight from the package. They cut paper better that way. Grow a pair and do it for real. Stop faking it. Then you won't have a tangled thread problem.

Using sharp blades would allow a convincer of slashing paper, yes, but how would it solve the problem with tangled thread?

Still no solution about tangling the blades with the slot running down the center.

How about you look up Tim Ellis version..... I think it is on Ellis in wonderland. Ok it's not (straight out of the packet .....but you can cut paper first (and mouth too). Never had the tangle though......

I have perfected a method of heat treating real double edged razors that make them crunch up like a lightbulb. Some medical research is underway, once it is cleared I will have them available for purchase. And yes, they will cut paper.

If they at e in small pieces they are less likely to tangle with the thread! See it was on topic.
Nippy how much you paying for medical research ....... Or do you have an ice cream van ...... Put it inthe "nut crunch" and see how many little ones need surgery? Not that I would suggest you would actually do that. Just intreagued me. |

Now I am off to drink tea and eat cucumber sandwiches (with the crusts cut of of course) and I will be taking afternoon tea with the queen and the rest of the country at 4pm. |
