I'm looking for a nice, well made, heavy mystic 8 ball if anyone has one they'd like to sell??? Not one of those cheap plastic ones that sell for a few dollars these days. Very interested to hear from you if you have a nice one for sale, particularly if you bought it at a travelling carnival in the 1930's and are only looking for $20 for it...!
Routine ready and waiting.

Thanks Tony. Yes, I think (and you'll know better than me) that the Mattel 8-Ball is copyrighted "Magic 8-Ball". I have a plastic one, but it is quite frustrating in that the "advice" that pops up in the window is usually barely legible. It seems that unless the object that floats inside happens to land flat with the window, it is impossible to read the writing. You also often find that the object lands against the window on its side.
The routine I'm playing around with doesn't rely in any way on the advice that the 8-ball actually gives, so this isn't really such a problem. I wondered if there had ever been some really "nice" ones made, but if they have always been made from plastic then that is fair enough. I love the 8-Ball and am surprised just how little the mentalist world has embraced them.

I had one in the early 60's. The ones I see these days seem to be more cheaply made than what I remember. But those are old memories and everything seemed cooler when you were a child.

Seems like they have always been made from plastic, so my original thought of trying to source a more deluxe version (made from what material I don't know) was erroneous from the start. I guess the great thing about the 8 ball is its novelty, cheap and cheerfulness!

This thread prompted me to look up "Magic 8 Ball" on Wikipedia. I was surprised to read that the ball contains a cylinder with the liquid (alcohol and blue dye) and the answer die in it. I always assumed the entire sphere contained the liquid. Unlike most toys I had as a kid, I guess I never busted one of these open to see how it worked.
