Heh - funny you mention this. I came across an Australian article on the same study last week. It reminded me of that Robert Redford film "Sneakers" where an offhand comment is made to determine the legitimacy of a candidate by the quality of their shoes. So to me, if that was in a 1990s movie, this is nothing new. The sad part is, it seems this study has a very small sample size, but I expect it's true.
Also on the issue of shoes, I was watching Max Maven's "Nothing" yesterday, and he mentioned early mediums memorising the shoes of their audience members as information for blindfold routines.

Interesting - I was watching Multiplicity last night. We all know that Max puts out high-quality material, but I almost find myself more fascinated with the history surrounding the effects/techniques than with the effects themselves. He definitely covers all the bases when explaining a routine, that's for sure. |

I've had more than one reader tell me he looks at people's shoes first. I've also heard from custom officers at airports that they check out people's shoes. People who smuggle drugs because they desperately need the money are often given new clothes so that they do not stand out with their old worn out clothes (and a haircut and visit to the dentist!), but they often do not wear new shoes because those are uncomfortable, especially when you are already nervous.
