Dear All,
I am in the process to buy the equipment needed to perform a straight jacket escape for my current show. By "curiosity"....I already tried in the warehouse to stay in the "head up side down" position. After few seconds, Head red and eyes red !!!!! >>>>> Seriously guys, should I forget about this? Is this depends of people? Some people can and some people just can't? Will it get easy if I train everyday to stay few more seconds,,,? Is it dangerous to continue if from the firsts seconds, my eyes are red,,,??? This could be a joke, but Im f,,,,g serious !!! () I need for this act to stay the "head up side down" 1 Minute and I have real doubts about my capacities to do this! Thanks for all your advices! |

Firstly, I am writing this as someone who has done a considerable amount of training in trapeze and aerials. I have spent a large amount of time upside-down (even swinging that way) but I am NOT a doctor. For a definitive answer see your GP.
Now that the disclaimer is out of the way... Capillaries in and around your eyes will burst - get used to it. Basically they are not used to the extra pressure. This happens even when doing a little handstand practise but it will go away after a while. The capillary walls will thicken. So keep practising and the problem will go away. |

With anything that requires body strength. Much depends on your physical condition. Michel Fouche is correct, get a physical exam from a doctor, then start a work out program and strength building regiment every day. Unless your muscles are toned and conditioned, I would not recommend any type of extreme stunt. If you cannot do setups and stomach setups, push-ups and the like, then forget this stunt. If you are not strong then this will tear your joints apart.

Well Michel, Swann and Hegbini, thanks for your answer, I really appreciate.
Its sounds like an horror movie this !!!! )) Capillaries burst, joints apart..... I really wonder if I do this or not I already do some "easy escapes" during my show such as water tank escape, table of death... But With these illusions, its quite easy,,,, to have the head up side down during 60 seconds,,,,, This is real,,, I m really wondering if I do this or not,,,,,, |

Move the slider forward to the 37:27 mark at this podcast and listen to their wise words regarding escapes, including straight jackets.

I have a back problem and one of the "cures" is to hang upside down. However my Dr. said, "Since you have high blood pressure, do not do it."
