One of my highlights--I started doing a card trick and got that line we all dread: "Oh, I've seen this one before." But I plugged through it, and got a great line: "Oh, well...I hadn't seen *that* before!"
Another good one came from a professor of theatre. Something along the lines of: "I don't usually think of magic as theatre, but this is something different."

I remember many Compliments, that's also the reason I keep doing magic.
In my area here in sweden many people know me as a magician, that's great for me. I remember doing street magic many years ago and I did many tricks. When I did Ninja Rings there was many strong Words about my magic. I also did some fun card magic, one guy asked me if I could play poker for him, he wanted to make big Money with my skills. I performed on a crusieship between sweden and denmark, two times a day for several weeks. After every show someone came to me and said some nice comments. I was performing two months on a hotel, Norway. One day the hotel manager told me -"Mats, everyone is talking about you and the magic" In a local magic club some magicians gave me Compliments; "You should go to Las Vegas", "what you did was impossible". Yes, the list goes on and on.... (And I also so remember some negative comments, too) Mats Kjellstrom Sweden |

Good stuff, Mats ^ And yes, we all remember our share of bad comments, too.

"OMG, who are you? - you're like Jesus!" Unfortunately said to my friend, but I'll never forget that!
"OMG, I love magic!" - might not sound like the greatest of compliments, but she had previously said she thought magic was silly. 10 secs later I produced a sponge ball and got that comment. Oh the power of the sponge balls |

"No f-in way!"
"You're making my head hurt!" Stunned silence or gasps from a group of about 40 people, then applause... A look almost approaching fear as I came up with the name a woman was holding only in her mind, the name of a person I couldn't possibly know "Wait, what the!... That's impossible!" -- from my son, who KNOWS how I do a LOT of my magic. "No way! You have to tell me how you did that one!" -- from my wife, who also knows a lot of what I do, and often reacts with a roll of her eyes when I try to show her something new |

My favorite compliment and my best compliment, I'm afraid, are different.
My favorite was similar to Brian's. A woman screamed and dropped the sponge balls, then started laughing nervously. I assume that this was because she was a bit embarrassed about screaming like that in public. The best compliment I got, however, indicated not only that the person appreciated my expertise, but also that I earned her trust as a professional. It did, however, come with a choice I didn't really want to make at the time: "Will you teach my son?" -Tom
Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.
