Have you seen this yet?
http://www.gimpysmagic.com/choppo.html I just got mine this week. It is #30. When I first inquired about them I was told there was a 4 week wait. That was fine with me, as I am not one of those guys that get something new to go into my show the very next day. I have to plan and script and rehearse it. What was also great, is I did not have to pay for it until it was ready. That was refreshing. Too many other builders in magic are quick to take your money and then you wait forever. Not so with Gimpy. He was about right on, on the 4 week wait. I decided to go ahead and pay while my prop was still drying and I had it the next week. He also takes paypal which is great. The product is one serious piece of furniture. The Choppo is heavy duty and built to last a lifetime. And it is safe! I sold my other regular chopper to help pay for this one. My old chopper had to hit the persons hand to do what it had to do. In the Choppo, the blade never touches the hand. So there is no worry about hurting anyone. When my friend saw me open the package, she kept asking "where is the rest of it?" meaning, where is the gimmick? You get the 2 panel board and knife, written instructions, and a link to video instructions. There are no gimmicks. It can be examined if you desire to put that in your presentation. It takes just a little practice to perfect this, but what is good that does not take practice? And I am tired of magicians getting props and putting them right in their shows without rehearsing. Just in my first day of practicing, I am able to do this correctly. Since I got this yesterday, I have not put it in my show yet. I am still scripting the routine. This is worth practicing and presenting correctly, as it looks to be a very powerful piece of magic. Since I only have the 30TH one made, not a lot of magicians are doing this. I am guessing probably half of them were bought to go in a collection. It makes a great collectors item. What is also great, is that you do not need to perform this on a "surface". Early in my professional career, which spans over 40 years, I rarely or never had surfaces to work on. So early on I decided to do a show with no table top magic. In my stage and platform show I only use a stool for my rabbit. Other than that, I do not use any table top magic. If you watch most of the Great stage performers in magic, they rarely use table tops to work on. If they do, they are for a feature effect. Another thing I cannot stand it s magician that "hides" behind a table his whole act. So Choppo is definitely a prop for a professional. So if anyone wants a unique heavy duty professionally made item, and made for professional acts, with tons of presentation possibilities, then do not get this. I do not want anyone else performing it JUST JOKING!!! Seriously, if you really want one, I suggest you do what I did and contact Gimpy here on the Café. He is fast to answer you and can tell you when to expect one. I also made a phone call to him, and he answered the phone right then and answered my question. Here is Gimpy's on the Café: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/bb_pr......er=37300 Take care, ACE

I remember seeing this for the first time about a year ago which seems late, the video was posted on Youtube on Aug. 20th 2007.

Jimmy has been doing Choppo for many years. He contacted me a couple of years back to see if I could build it. Last winter I had some time to work eveything out to build the prop. We started sending Choppos out in March. I do these in small runs of 6 so only 30 have been made.
Ace, Glad to hear you like the Choppo, hope you get a lot of use out of it. Gimpy

It's a gorgeous prop. Totally professional finish on the woodwork and the hardware. The sword has enough heft to be threatening. But the best thing is the simplicity and innocence of the whole thing. Everything stands up to scrutiny and examination, because there's nothing to see.
Now appearing nightly in my basement.

Very limited availability, Gimpy doesn't make many of these. We agreed that they really need to be done up to the highest standard of quality and finish, and, boy, doe Gimpy really do it right!
You're lucky to get one, I can't even get them from him... I feel lucky to just have the one that he made for ME!!! I don't even have the new sword yet... I'm still using my own sword for this! Jimmy |
