Anyone seen this yet? Curious about over all quality and speed of set-up. http://www.ronjo.com/magic/P0214.html

I spoke to a well know Magic Dealer who carries this item. He stated that it is not very sturdy and he would not recommend purchasing it.

I've seen one in person and decided not to buy it. Cool idea, but not built to my quality standards.
Frank - you can search for pop-up table on youtube and see several demo videos of this. It's not new, It's been out for years. For some people this will work, for others it won't. It was simply too unsteady to use in my kids shows. - Kevin |

Thanks Kevin, here is a link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DonX-pb40P8&feature=related The table looks a little wobbly but I am still curious as I love the way it pops up into place.

They have a clever design idea - but even so, I looked at this some time ago, and decided that this wouldn't work for me in a practical way. If I remember rightly, the main upright of the table is in fact, a cloth. Not sure what actually supports the table, but it's not as solid as it looks. I was also dubious about the practicality of the sliding top pieces.
I do think that a good manufacturer could adapt this design, to create something superior. To date, there is no single table that I feel is ideal for magicians. I was lucky enough to win a very good table from Hocus Pocus Magic Shop years ago - the Billy McComb Table - originally priced at $1000 - which is still in pristine condition, after thousands of shows. My table folds down into a very small suitcase-sized package. No props can be carried in it, but it's an easy thing to carry about. What I love about this table is that the logo area (top front of the table) is protected at all times when folded up, so it maintains it's appearance for many years. The downside has been that it's held together with rivets, which have given way over the years, and it's been neccessary to replace the rivets with nuts and bolts, which are way superior. I still carry spare nuts and bolts in my kit, for emergency replacement, when a rivet finally gives out. All in all, it's a fine table, and SO fast to put up and take down (literally a couple of seconds). The zip on the case also gave out years ago, and I now contain the table within the case with a luggage strap. I've drilled holes, stuck velcro tabs on for various props and effects, added bits to the top of the table to prevent specific props falling off, made adjustments to allow a servante, and none have ever needed replacement. I must admit that I feel the Billy McComb Table is possibly the finest table ever produced for magicians. It doesn't purport to contain your show, but it's about as small as it could be, easily carried, and made of durable material that will last a lifetime. Potty |

Actually the table is held up by wooden supports, the fabric is just a covering on the font of the supports.

This is a very interesting concept. This video points out some of the limitations: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVeIiB-Ip-g. It does seem a bit wobbly and the top well latches interfere with it permitting a flat surface for close up work.

It looks quite shaky
It is a lot of luggage with very little storage capacity. Not very much bang for the buck.

Just bring in a chair suspension and use the board as your table.
Since the chair suspension is your last trick no need for a table. That's what I do. |

You have the right idea. I turn my brief case on it's side, and place it on top of my jump stool. My brief case will hold twice as much stuff as that pop up table can, and it is as steady as a rock.

I just got mine and I really like it. It is everything people here have said it is (space limited and a little shaky) but overall I like it. The way it pops up and the fact that it takes up less room in my car than my suitcase table makes it ideal for certain venues.

Good for you!! I have one and I gave it to the kids to use as it was not up to the quality I need for the quanity of programs it was intended for. I ended up going with the Mark Evens tabel that is sold by David Charvet. I opted for the top opening instead of the side opening and it fits the bill! Good luck, break a leg and have fun with your new table and I hope all that see you are a little bit happier than thay were before seeing your show!!! |

I have it too and it's like a table on tooth picks.
