I am wanting to learn a good center tear and I have come across this book numerous times in various conversations here in the Café. I've done a search and haven't seemed to come up with anything close to a review of this work.
From the sounds of it, I know it will be a worth while investment. But I must say I'm curious about the center tear teachings it contains. I'm just curious if this is the best book to purchase for learning methods to conduct center tears. Currently I've been debating on either getting this or The Perfected Centre Tear by Richard Osterlind. Any and all information on this subject would be highly appreciated. Thanks for your time, - Brandon

Anything put out by Osterlind is sure to be practical and not knuckle busting. The Busch tome does a wonderful job of describing a terrific center tear (I'm working on it right now) but also has tons of additional useful, well thought out advice for the mental worker. You can't go wrong with either.

Brandon;
Get the PCT. It is very very good, and easy to do. Tecnically it will work for you from day one. NB...you have to work on the presentation. though. With the PCT you also get some other very good routines, among others a stunning addition to a book test.

Can't speak for the Osterlind, but I can certainly say that Peek Performances is one of the best books on mentalism that I have read. It's whole philosophy is that a mentalist should be able to do a complete act with a couple of business cards and index cards. It's a book you will keep going back to as your skill improves. To address your specific concern, one of the (off) center tears that it teaches allows you take your peek while you're doing the tear, so you end clean with nothing to worry about recovering later. But PP gives you many other ways to obtain info without resorting to a CT. There are also some wonderful effects.
Sample effect: TA WATERS OBJECTS (the title is a joke on the method). The performer shows a sealed white letter envelope. He mentions that his wife had a strong feeling this morning and asked if she could make a prediction tonight. The performer says that his wife gave him this sealed envelope with her prediction in it. He asks a random participant to name a two digit number. The participant calls out a ramdom two digit number. The performer looks at the envelope and hesitates. Not wishing his wife to look bad, the performer makes his own simpler prediction come true. However, after the participant insists, he returns to the matter of his wife: the envelope is opened, and the participant takes out a letter. In the letter the wife has predicted exactly which number the participant has chosen. No, no NW. The envelope is in full view of the audience at all times. I have had serious skeptics start to believe with this one effect. But PP gives you much more: specific skills, approach and attitude, as well as some excellent effects. Okay--let me throw in one last convincer (aside from the free Vegematic and Abs Roller): I challenge anyone who has worked with this book to give it less than a 9.5 out of 10. Hey, look, I'm sure the PCT is great too. I'm just saying don't pass PP by. Jack Shalom

Brandon,
"Peek Preformances" is a book not to be read, but to be studied. I consider it a monument in mentalism literature. Things from this book have opened many very large doors for us. Highly recommended. A must have. Richard Osterlinds "Perfected Center Tear", as indicated, contains a wonderful tear (which some consider the very best) and other very worthwhile writings on billets, words on one of the mentalists best secret weapons, thoughts on ashes, lighters, coins....you get the picture. You can't go wrong with Osterlind. With that said, it may be that your not ready for either of them, or that you've needed them for a very long time. You have no bad choices! Ted (Leondo) |

Thanks everyone for their time and input on this subject.
Leondo, In regards to you comment, you are correct. I've needed these materials for sometime. More or less I've needed to learn a good center tear and that's why I've asked about the following sources. Looks like I be getting both sources sooner or later. Thanks again everyone, -Brandon
