In the L&L Publishing series, Tommy Wonder showed how he treated the ends of rope - I think it was some chemical. Does anybody remember? It was very slick.

Also, the late Pavel had perfect ends of the rope he sold. It looked like he used some type of epoxy on the ends, and then cut through them when they were dry.

Bob Sanders-

That is a GREAT story! Oddly, we have a half dozen or so horses as well and, yes, I don't take chances with riding gear. A little less fearful with my magic rope, but sometimes the crowd can get a little out of hand... Smile

Hats off to you, sir, for your service and your unwillingness to grab that rope- I imagine there were times it was a tempting option...

I thought I would throw this in there for consideration.

I use some of that 'premium' magician's rope. What I've tried with some success is hockey stick tape. This is a white cloth tape, about 1/2" wide, that players use to wrap their hockey sticks so that when they break them over each other's head, the spliters won't get in their eyes. Just surmise on that last bit. Anyway, it's available from sporting goods stores. I wrap it once around the end of the rope a bit snugly (so it doesn't catch when undoing knots) and then cut it in half so there is a 1/4" tape holding the end together. I've used it in numerous performances without issue.

There is a slight difference in color depending on how bright your rope is, but I don't think it reads much from parlor to stage sized venues.

Sounds like something to look into. I agree- the color variance is not especially concerning for me, as I make sure all ends are the same. Sometimes I think a totally different end color would actually convince the specs that all is well...
