I remember when this came out and I watched the demo and thought "that's nonsense". I just felt I'd never do this over The Last Trick Of Dr. Jacob Daley ( from The Dai Vernon Book of Magic ).
For some reason, time and time again, David Penn's trick kept getting in my radar. One of my favorite reviewers in magic, Wayne Kawamoto, said "An impressive packet trick that's easy to learn and perform". Wayne is an active performer himself and I've come to trust his reviews. http://magic.about.com/od/magicreview/fr/032308hypno.htm So, I ordered it from Penguin: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S10088 WHAT A TRICK this is! It does not operate as some previous marketed tricks ( Jon Allen's Double Back and Richie Sanders' Super Cards ). It's quite unique, even outside of the "hypno cards". The cards have that design as you can see from the demo on Penguin. When you show them and have them look into the center, they will see the spiraling action. This along with David's clever patter make the ending not only a GIANT surprise, but it makes sense, for those that care about those sorts of things. It comes with a DVD and David does a bang up job teaching the effect, which only has minimal sleights ( NO Elmsley "ghost" counts ). The magic happens in their mind ( I guess all magic happens there ) and in their hands. The cards you place in their hands are free of guile ( sorry, Vernon lover here ). You could have dupes in your pocket and when you go for your wallet or whatever you choose to carry the cards in, switch them. Or, you could carry everything in a switching wallet and use that. I don't think is an issue at all, but everyone has their own way of doing things. BRILLIANT thinking by David Penn on this. I'm gobsmacked over it. |
