Thankyou, Bob. Do you have any photos of that place? I'll google it.

Thankyou very much for posting a photo, Bob. Very nice. I will check with GoogleEarth A.S.A.P. - not sure how it will work with this computer- I'll get the Scary Librarian to give me some help with that.
I did check google images last night and found some pics of Puget Sound. I see what you mean. The photo of me was taken at Robert Simpson Park, Arnprior. The Madawaska River and Ottawa River join there. There's a lighthouse in the upper left of the pic, and I saw one in one of the Puget Sound photos last night, also a bridge. There's a trestle across the River here- I think I just noticed that in a pic last night! And you've got the mountains (Olympic?) in the background- there are some in the pic of me, too- the Laurentians, how appropriate . They're not as tall, but they're there. One thing I saw in my search last night for Puget Sound that we don't appear to have, are killer whales, least I haven't seen any yet. Thanks again for the photo! |

Yes, we occasionally get to see Orcas swimming around the Sound. The variety of marine life is incredible.

That's not a tobacco cigarette if you get my meaning. Why do you think I'm smiling?

Look who I was lucky enough to meet up with when I took the garbage out tonight! I had to go back inside to get my camera!
I was a little concerned about spooking it, but not very, considering my familiarity with the species- my Mom fed stray cats out here for years, so it followed quite naturally she was feeding a skunk and a bunch of very cool raccoons, too. Fascinating! This little one seemed delightfully oblivious to my presence and allowed many photos with flash. Typically, my camera battery was near dead. If it hadn't been, I'd have been out there standing in the rain taking pics til s/he left. It came very close, brilliantly coherent, no worries, has quite a healthy appetite- stood no more than 4-5 feet away from me at one point, snuffing, digging, and tossing out grubs, I guess. I could hear the creature breathing, huff, snuff. Wonderful! If it's raining again tomorrow night, I'll make sure my camera's ready. Soaking wet, galavanting in the rain, hop, sniff. |

So cute.
We have visiting skunks here too, sometimes in the garage as my cat is free to come and go. One time at dusk I kitty kittyed what I thought was my Cat. Seemed like a Pepe LePew cartoon when I realized the "kitty" galloping towards me was a skunk. I probably hurt her feelings when I beat a hasty retreat. I love the pics. Laurie. Hope you don't have a story that will be fun in retrospect tomorrow. -Mary Mowder |

Lookie what the Scary Librarian and I found: this is part of the old CNR line.
Most of it was removed (centrally) in town several years ago, but this stretch remains- I had read online of its location (slightly hidden) and we landed upon it this weekend- it branches off the main line to end up at the back door of a factory here- interesting. I believe they're still being supplied by it. How 'bouts the rest of us, hmmm? This year the railroad line I mentioned being torn up was the CPR. Arnprior's 150th anniversary this year and all going on about how far we've come, what progress, yada, yada- I say- huh? 150 years ago there were 2 railway lines active daily, mass transportation for those looking to expand their horizons out of here at the drop of a hat, and there were cows walking through downtown on top it all- EXCELLENT! Arnprior's gone nowhere but backwards from that, says I- reading a might of that Irish theatre lately. Did I just rant on this thread? It's the Irish in me, must be... I keep a close watch on this heart of mine. I keep my eyes wide open all the time... |
