Yes, that's EXACTLY what he said and what he is now backpedaling from. I'm still wondering how "leaving others alone" has worked out for those who get bullied or even raped, as you've suggested.
I'd still like to know how Glenn would have responded to Pearl Harbor were he President at the time. Maybe he would have just gone on radio and stated, "Today is a day that will live in infamy. But, to be honest, I don't think we should respond, because then we will just be provoking them to try it again. "But I suggest all of you buy guns in case they come back and try to kill you. "Me, I'm off to Canada!" |

The fact that an attack won't be unopposed is very little deterrent.
The fact that they might give back to you 5 times more than you gave is a much stronger deterrent.

That's NOT "exactly" what I said. Switzerland has not "never" been attacked. I said they haven't been attacked since the Napoleonic wars.
Also, I said you won't EVEN have to worry about retaliating. Rape is not something that needs retaliation, it's something people need defense from. And Bob, I answered that question. "I don't know" is a legitimate answer. To ignore that is to be incredibly intellectually dishonest.

Perhaps not, but one who will stop fighting back as soon as you break off is less of a deterrent than one who will hunt you down and shoot you even after you stop trying to break in.

Japan has not participated in a major war as a combatant since being defeated in World War II. Even though Japan maintains a powerful defense force, its Constitution, originally drawn under the guidelines of General Douglas MacArthur in 1945, formally renounces war and the use of military force in aggressive or offensive ways. Japan also maintains a policy against the exporting of military hardware. In addition, Japan is the only nation with a space exploration program not to have nuclear weapons.
