About the American Civil War, it was no such thing. What I mean is they did not contest control of a government or imaginary lines in the sand. A civil war is more that. This was something different and most miss the point.

Here south in Dixie we often refer to it as The War of Northern Aggression. Some refer to it as The War for Southern Independence. My lord you still hear things like "you're pretty funny for a Yankee".

People have a very poor historical perspective of anything that happened prior to their birth or things that they do not experience personally. This is why revising history as Glenn seems to enjoy is so easy. It is seductive to be morally superior and look back and tell people what they should have done and judge them by some artificial utopian dream you would employ if only you were in control.

Judgment is easy when you are so far removed from events. It is even easier to judge those we disagree with. It is just that doing so does not make you morally superior, or even correct.
