Most of George Pal's films were excellent.
"Doc Savage, Man of Bronze" was the glaring exception.

Great film (better than the remake I think.) And funny you should mention that!
I’m featuring an H. G. Wells “The Time Machine” piece when the San Francisco Magic Parlor run starts in October… It’s called “A Time Traveler” and is a theatrical/storytelling piece that is so powerful I have to close the Act One with it. I’ve re-worked the presentation and the routining several times, through trial and error, and I’m finally satisfied with my results. I was inspired by the book, the films, and the lore of time travel, I hope some of my Café colleagues will be able to see it. Astonishment! My local doctor is actually called Doctor Savage. Sadly the resemblance ends there.

I am a huge H.G. Wells fan - The 1960's version of the Time Machine is great, I believe Rod Taylor was the time traveler. I read somewhere the chair/time machine used in this movie turned up years later in a re - sell shop, someone recognized it and purchased this. The chair was missing a few things, was repaired and was worth I believe over $100,000.
Growing up in the sixties and early seventies I was fascinated by the "Strange Change" models/toys which you painted and assembled, one of these kits were based on this novel. Awhile back I built one and put a motor to it and turned it into a magic trick: http://s295.photobucket.com/albums/mm126......eler.mp4 Chuck Caputo |

Filby and the Time Traveler did meet again, 30 years later, in this short sequel, with Rod Taylor and Alan Young reprising their roles. No Weena tho, sorry.

I've read that there is a new Doc Savage in the offing. Fingers crossed that it is better than George Pal's version. Will Murray, who wrote some Doc Savage books after the Bantam reprints were finished, has written three more (with more coming). I've read two and they aren't bad. They're based on outlines that Lester Dent wrote.

Gotta love the Morlocks despite their cannibalistic tendencies. I like the obsession they have to oil and repair machinery, the only problem that immediately struck me is that not everything is mechanical - in a far ahead time as they were in, oil or lubricant used by them in the novel for machinery would not have been a thought of as far advanced pc/mother boards and electronics would surely be used in their machinery and the two ( oil and electronics ) are not a good mix - then again, only I would have thought about something like that! LOL

I've watched this film many times and I remember when I was young I always found it quite creepy.

Tony Chris offers a very nice routine called " Time Traveler " based on the film.

Still is one of my very favorite films ...especially when he's travelling through years and one watches the clothes on the maniquin change... I also loved First Men in the Moon -- as I remember it ..it was great. here's a clip http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058100/

I never saw the movie, only read the book on this one, will have to check it out. I am also a Jules Verne fan, between Wells and Verne the sky was no limit.
