I am currently looking for different card tricks where the cards used get destroyed by tearing, creasing, dipping them in water...anything.
Ex: card warp, torn and restored, linking cards, Preferably with ungaffed cards. but since this is an early stage research all suggestions of literature or specific tricks will be appreciated. =) |

Sankey has an effect called Stapled! where three cards are ruined with each performance. It's in the Kaufman 100% Sankey book as well as Sankey's Greatest Hits (among others).

WOW, one could write a multi-volume treatise on these effects.
A few that come to mind: Restoration by Guy Hollingworth Reparation by Jon Lovick Immaculate Connection by Paul Harris Osmosis by Sylvain Marouf Tearable by Mark Lefler The Best Gosh Darn Impromptu Linking Card Effect You'll Ever See! by Harry Lorayne Forgery by Jay Sankey Card Warp by Roy Walton Star Warp by Howard Schwarzmann' Greenwarp by Bob McAllister Card Warp deck idea by Darwin Ortiz The Pothole Trick by Michael Close (business cards but can be done with playing cards) The Complete Torn and Restored Card by Derek Dingle Matrix Torn and Restored Card by J.C. Wagner Impromptu Torn And Restored Card by LePaul Torn Card by Eugene Burger There are of course MANY more; these are the ones that immediately came to mind. Namaste, Vlad |

Great!
I am not familiar with all of the effects. I am interessted in categorizing them into different concepts. So far I see five: - Linking card concepts - Torn and restored card concepts - Card warp concepts - card stab concepts - Moving hole concepts Are there others one can think of? |

I think Stapled card effects are different from card stab effects and probably deserve their own classification. They are more aptly a variant of sandwich effect, but based on your destroyed card classification above seem distinct from the other categories.

80% of anything by Paul Harris. My favorite that I NEVER see anyone here talk about is The Voodoo Card by Steranko. I reserve this until Halloween or anytime I know my specator has an interest in the occult or is easily spooked. I have made adult men scream like little girls with this.

I'll have to pull out my Steranko book tonight and take a look.

There are effects where something is burned into the card.

Paul Harris is a good source, of course. Immaculate Connection is one of the reasons I am searching for this kind of effects.
The Voodoo card is unknown to me. Can you describe the effect? Also I've been concidering purchasing Ben Harris' quarks and quirks. Is that a book that might be a good source for my quest? Categories so far: - Linking card concepts - Torn and restored card concepts - Card warp concepts - card stab concepts - Moving hole concepts - stapeled card(s) effect - Burned card effects |

Seems like Eugene Burger also had a Card Through Tablecloth that ruined the card when water was poured onto the cloth for a reveal. Also, if memory serves me correct, Matt Schullin had a card selected card appear inside a beer bottle full of beer.

Tear the entire deck in half when you're done doing what you do. Then tear each half in half. Then no cards remain, guaranteed.
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |

It's an interesting idea, but shouldn't there be a restoration finish?

The Voodoo Card is from Guy Hollingworth "Drawing Room Deceptions", not Steranko, and it's a hidden effect. Most will just pass over it without even knowing.

Sexten Beme's one card link is extremely magical, though the preparation of the gaff takes about ten to twenty minutes. But it's the only linking card routine that I know of where you can hand the card in linked condition to the spectator.

I heard from a friend that anecdotal evidence is actually quite reliable. |

I can't remember who did it but someone here will know - there's a nice effect involving a razor blade & all the cards in a case are cut to ribbons leaving just a selected card intact.
