Hello,
I am building an elevator box for my son. For his act we like the box to "automatically" open the lid. Any comments on the best way to do this are welcome. Whe have thougt on an electronic device (but which) or simply the use of IT? Greetings John |

A box which appears empty after opening the lid, then when reopens contains a cardbox.

You could use a small 3-6 volt motor and an arduino micro controller. The Arduino can be used to set timing etc., or you can use a sensor input, such as a proximity sensor so that he could wave his hand over the box, and it then opens containing the card box. Programming an arduino takes all of about 30 minutes to learn.

You could extend a bar off the back of the lid, attach some string to that, and go down to a spool on the motor shaft and use mechanical advantage to lift it quickly, easily and quietly. Just another thought

Hi John,
is he already holding the box in his hands, as in the ad?, or is it on the table when you want the lid to move? bob
I spent most of my money on magic and women, the rest i just wasted

Here's something that might be useful to you depending on how big your box is -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z86V_ICUCD4 They sell the kits on their web site too for not too much (under $20) if that helps - if not it's a fun mechanical distraction
I say in 200 words what most people say in 20.

The kit is pretty cool, I put one together and made a magic effect out of it. Below is a clip - unfortunately I had laryngitis at the time of the video so you have to listen closely but the effects of the box I added to the original is pretty cool.

LOL - Love it Anverdi! I had wondered how this could be integrated into a trick and your Know it All box does that perfectly!
