OK, I have a question. Have anyone of you ever produced a dove from a change bag and if you have, how long would be a safe time to be able to leave your dove inside, loaded in the bag? I have a bag that is velvet and lined with a regular cotton type material. So I think there would be enough air available. I also have a rayon/silk lined one but I figure that material is too closely knit/made to allow air to pass through. So I do not want to use that one. I would love all and any help with this. I do not want to harm my dove. Thanks!

First, welcome to the Café. It's always good to see new people here.

Second, please do not POST IN ALL CAPS.* It makes your message very difficult to read.

Third, I'd suggest you post this question down a bit further in the "Polly wants a cracker" forum. There, you will find many posts that are specific to using animals (and birds) in shows. Of course, there are animal experts who also read this forum, but you may find your question already answered in Polly.

Cheers!

Petrie/Lewis (blessed is the ground in Heaven they walk on) mfg. a dove bag similar to the change bag. You might find one from the auction sites or dealers of old apparatus. So yes, doves can be produced from a change bag.

CHOPPER49,

* The all caps typing has been corrected. We know that you are a new poster on The Magic Café, but out of respect for the over 51,000 members of The Magic Café, we ask that you honor the more tradition style used here. (This is consistent with the style on your website too.)

Welcome to The Magic Café. You will learn to love it.

Relating to your question, yes, there are change bags that can be used for dove production. As a dove worker I don't recommend it.

You will find plenty of information about this in the topic for using livestock in magic. That topic is Polly Wants a Cracker.

Enjoy your dove magic.

Part of the trick would be to have a Change Bag large enough so that when you turn it inside out you do not harm the bird in any way. So a 'regular' change bag probably wouldn't work. There are some larger ones available or at least there were. I don't think air would be a problem if you are VERY careful. Something doesn't get placed on bag, etc. Watch out for HEAT, etc.

Personally, I would try to do the production as soon after loading as possible. If you have an assistant they could load just before needed, etc.

This is the reason I don't and didn't work with live animals although for children's workers they can be an incredible plus in getting bookings and getting larger fees!!!

When working with animals you have to think of every possible thing that could go wrong and then think some more. From the experiences of friends over the last 43 years I can tell you that nothing blows the good vibes of a children's show like producing a 'dead' little buddy.

All best,
Brad Burt
