Can anyone comment on the similarities and differences between X-Act and Andy Nyman's "Insane"?

I don't have Insane but have watched the video demonstrations. Although the effect is similar, the handling and methods are completely different (the method for Insane looks fairly obvious to me, whereas I defy anyone to guess the X-Act method). With X-Act you cannot hand out the deck, but the two cards can be examined (in one version). Also there are no false or illogical moves when handling the two cards before the revelation - you just deal face-up to the freely selected number and show that the card matches the prediction. However, unlike Insane, X-Act is not an open prediction. With Insane, it is also easier to vary the prediction, making it more suitable for table-hopping.

I purchased one at the SAM convention. Mark sold out all 90 that he had brought by the second morning. David Copperfield bought two so that should tell you how good this looks.

Mark Mason had a lot of mail orders for that trick too.

I just saw this demonstrated at the Genii Convention and it is a very strong effect. The thought process behind it's development is great. And as as always with Mark's effects the quality is very good.

I have it and it's a good piece of magic.
It is so clever how it works. And as long as you do it just like on the DVD your good to go. You have to deside if it's worth carring another deck.

Can anyone comment on how X-act compared to Think by Shin Lim? Seems very simliar or am I missing something? Thanks
Think -- http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S13749 From the mind of Shin Lim comes an extremely clean and deceptive piece of mentalism. Effect: You present both a deck of cards and a prediction, both which YOU WILL NEVER TOUCH in the performance. As a matter of fact, you can be sitting in the audience while the spectator is on stage counting the cards. You ask the spectator to think of a number between 1-52. Once a number has been chosen, you instruct the spectator to pick up the deck, and deal down to that number. You then instruct her to lift up the prediction which has been on the table the entire time. THE CARD AND PREDICTION MATCH.... EVERY TIME! POINTS: The magician DOES NOT touch the deck at any time. The magician DOES NOT touch the prediction at any time. NO gimmicks. NO rough and Smooth. NO sticky cards (this includes, glues, wax, roughing, ANYTHING) NO equivoque NO stooges NO switching NO electronics NO gimmicks Instant Reset Shot in 1080p full HD, Shin goes over 3 variations of this effect. |

WOW this is GOOOOOOD. I always enjoy products put out by Mr. Mason. To follow on what Pegasus posted, I agree that Insane by Andy Nyman is super strong. Plus the 'open prediction' factor weighs in heavy for me, which is a good thing. To speak in defense of X-Act, I also feel this is no doubt one of the cleanest ACAAN I've ever seen. Both versions are amazing, and straight forward. Even though its not an 'open prediction' it is-in itself-a top 10 in my book. This will definitely be going into my collection. So will Insane. However "Think" by Shin Lim is a NO-GO for me. I've heard far too many folks say its not 100% every time, and that the demo and DVD are misleading. Its gotten some pretty solid reviews from buyers on Penguin I've read, but not enough to make me hit that order button. Thanks to Pegasus for turning me onto Insane, appreciate learning of new magic I've never seen before.

@Magringo, I agree X-Act would be my choice after sleeping on it for a night.
@Ejohn, I had checked out Astonish on my journey to find the right effect amongst all these great ones. This is what I noticed. ----------------------------- 1. X-Act 2. Astonish Are NOT open predictions. ----------------------------- 3. Insane 4. Sub Zero Are open predictions. ----------------------------- All of them deal the cards face down, except X-act (face up). I still think I like the way Andy presents insane in his demo a little more, because it appears more straight forward, impromptu and on a escalator non the less. And the spec examines/shuffles the deck. Very strong. While as Nardi appears more close up style/seated in a dinner party setting, spec does not examine/shuffle deck. I did really dig the Dubstep music used in the Dobson/Nardi's demo. Both effects are amazing and great. But I think I will end up owning X-act due to the fact I still can't figure out the method. The method for the others I can kinda figure out. But dealing the cards face up, and being able to have the prediction card already in the specs hand is crazy. Good stuff.

I have ordered X-act from mark I know it;s not a open prediction as the Insane and sub zero, but magicians logic know's whats going on, but still very strong for the lay person. X-act is a prediction placed face down in the spetators hand they name any number 1-52 the cards are dealt face up to the selected number not the cards before or after and wam bam it matches the prediction card in the spectators hand as you turn the card over with suspense this is a very strong effect IMHO.Many of you can work out the insane and sub zero method but how many can work out the X-Act method ??? I thought I had the answer but it was'nt to be. ! I am looking forward to my purchase of X-act. and to perform it in the real world as soon as.

The "X-Act" method is very cool. I'm STILL smiling...
Like Bonnie Raitt said, "I miss Little Feat more than I miss being 8 years old." Thanks for the concerts + recordings, Lowell, Richie, and Paul!

This has been such a great experience for me. Mark and I would email back and forth working out all the little details. To get to work with such a master as Mark and to have my name on a jb magic product is a dream come true.

I prefer insane only because any card can be used as the selection.
