I met Sherman when I was working in El Paso,Tx.
with our stage show at Wallacetown USA Resort. He moved there because he said it was more peaceful than L.A. He was a great fan of magic and often attended Bart's Comic Strip to show support for other comedians. He would visit my father's The UPS Store because my dad had a few magic tricks on the shelf. The store was two blocks from Sherman's home on the eastside. His agent was also a live in girlfriend. She was always so worried about him when she would come in to send him money at my dad's store during his time on VH-1 show Surreal Life. You were a funny and generous man. He was always wearing a tie dyed shirt. He spent many evenings performing benefits for veterans on Ft Bliss as well. I miss you Sherman! 1938-2012 |

I once asked him, "Sherman, how did you get noticed?"
"That Stupid Funky Walk." was his reply. Folks mistakenly called him George all the time. He wasn't bothered by it. |

Another smile lost! He gave us chuckles and laughter and was truely a modest man.
The artist formally known as Mumblepeas!

What a great, great, talent and personality.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

This was his modest home in El Paso,Texas on Tom Ullozas drive just off
George Dieter Drive. This was taken when he was helping out for a christmas show with the 62nd Army Band on Ft Bliss an Army Base in El Paso,Tx. This was at the rehearsal for the Christmas event on Ft. Bliss I hope you enjoy them! He would always take the time to say, "Hi" to everyone whenever he went out to the local grocery store. It was mostly a nearby Alberstons on Yarbrough Drive. He never drove. Mostly neighbors and friends would shuttle him around town. He smoked a little grass on occasion for his back pain. |

Sorry BatsMagic, but it is true. Perhaps I should've kept that little secret.
He was a veteran and it was medically prescribed. This song was always playing full blast at Sherman's house. Click |

Sherman lived only a few blocks from here. Used to run into him at Albertson's all the time. Really nice guy. Always willing to stop and chat a bit, always had a smile on his face. He didn't have the exaggerated walk of his TV characters, but the voice and face were the same. A really good guy, lots of folks here on the east side of El Paso are gonna miss him terribly. He was a real good neighbor.

Let's all make sure we get the pronunciation right: "Deee-luxe"
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Not to put too fine a point on it, but his surname is Hemsley, not Helmsley.
And he was a fine actor; may he rest in peace. |
