These beautiful objects that were once disposable marketing grist, are finally being appreciated for the art they are...unfortunately, that means they are harder to come by, and very expensive. Browsing in person is tricky, but if you frequent the magic auction sites, you'll often find many to choose from. The classics are not cheap.
Check out http://www.martinka.com/martinka/auction......asp?ID=1 as a starting point. Get on their email list, and they'll announce the next auction, which usually will run for two weeks. Classic posters from the golden age are notoriously the high sellers. I'm not sure of your deeper interests (collector, investor, fan...), but if you just want to bathe in the beauty of the graphics without dishing out several grand to own an "original," you may want to consider investing in a high quality reproduction. Spartacus's link to Nielsen's will also give you that option. Enjoy the hunt. These treasures are worth it.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Dear Pleiades,
Although this reply is rather late in coming, you may find something of interest at David Drummond's shop: http://www.cecilcourt.co.uk/david_drummond.php It's right in the heart of the West End and stocks a lot of music hall and theatrical ephemera - playbills, posters and the like. There are always a few magic-related items, so it may be worth your having a look if you haven't been there before. T S-F K |
