I'm hoping that your rule for not telling granny off is a bit different than the rule for not telling the kid off. I would have sent her to her room without supper.Once a child cried after a granny shouted out "What have you done, you've broken the magicians wand". Cheers granny... |

Thanks for the encouraging words Michael. Great wand ideas from you guys. Mind if I "borrow" any of those?

Quote: You're welcome, Preston. As for any ideas you might get from me, always feel free to use them. I make it a point to only post those routines and bits that I don't mind sharing. Now, if I ever get a party in Tucson, I'll have to make sure I'm not on the same bill as you - so we don't do the same bits. Another fun thing I do in my shows that is not magic is I stand in front of the kids and suddendly stoip talking and slowly begin to fall forward, as if falling into the audience then catch myself at the last moment. Its funny to see the kids in the front row scramble backward.
I usually do this during my baking a cake routine and I hand the child the wand to "stir" the ingredients and as they do I spin my head, as if following the wand, telling to child to go REALLY fast! I then do the above bit. I will follow it up again 2-3 times again during the show at different points. The kids love it.

Guys I just read this entire topic from start to end, not much else for me to do since I’m still trying to get out of this hospital, 4 weeks of getting stonewalled is a but much. This has been a great thread and tons of great kids ideas were shared, since I’m late let me add a couple of things. Been doing this for over 30 years, work pretty much referrals 90% of my business is my own customers calling me back several times a year to see if I can give them some entertainment for this specific occasion they are having and if I can I say yes.
I have learned over the years that it’s all about how well did you entertain the audience, not about gee how many tricks did I perform, which really has nothing to do about the entertainment. It’s knowing what my client wants then over-delivering what I do which really makes my client glad they called me back year after year. If you haven’t seen the GZ DVD of his show then you need to go get it and study it like it was your final exam for your Bachelor’s degree.... an artist in motion. It’s all about just having fun playing with the kids, if you aren’t having fun doing this then entertaining kids isn’t your thing. Looks to me like everybody that posted on this tread is doing what they love to do entertain kids... There is nothing wrong with having a structured magic kids show with plenty of kids props and also there is nothing wrong with doing a kids show with almost no kids magic props, they both work. I love the part where I can joke with them and actually get them wound up kinda like the sucker tricks or the magician not seeing what is going on, like hippity hop rabbits, anything that gets them yelling and screaming at me for something I’m messing up will drive them even higher. When I leave as I’m driving down the road I’m thinking now that was one fun party or magic show. I would love to see more threads on subjects like this that involve sharing and not name calling.....sharing is a great idea among magicians.. |
