Has anyone used the cuss cards?
what size group are they geared for?

No more elite sets are to be had. I received the one of the last two made. You can get the basic kind and have a go with aging and improving them on your own. The cuss boxes are still available. Contact Chris to confirm.

They are best used one on one imo. The reaction is very strong. The participant can often be placed in a real moral dilemna. Definitely worth having.

Cuss cards are NOT a magic trick. They are the props used for an interactive bit of theater. A "magic" method is used to ensure that a seemingly random event happens at the climax, but if the routine is done right, the participant will never know that a "trick" has happened. They will either leave wondering about what might have happened at the end ,or exit relieved that it did not happen. If they leave wondering "how did he do that" then something went wrong!

These are the type of performance I prefer. that is why sanctum and lune are the most perfomred sets for me right now. Christopher how developed is the back story on the cards? is there room for my own development and expansion on the them?

they interest me. I collect all sort of esortic cards and items of divination.

First thing to say is that it is true that there are no more Cuss Card Elite sets, unles some mad millionaire want to buy my own set.
But watch the horizon...... We have some truly ground breaking stuff for the 31st of October...... I mean REALLY.
If people are interested, I will post the very last set up here, as I have the collectors permission. Also, I may still sell the boxes, for anyone with one of the first sets. Let me know.
However, to answer the questions here, as they seem genuine, as opposed to product hype (why hype a product that is no linger being made?).

Cuss cards is more of a psycho drama than a magic trick. In fact, there does not need to be any magic trick in there. It is all about getting the audience to reflect upon their beliefs. Also there is an important socio-political point to be made; the themes covered in the Cuss Car may seem to be beliefs and practices that we have left behind in the barbarism of the middle ages. However, they are every bit alive now as they ever were. We wear a very thin skin over our innate barbarism and decent into irrationality.
I did infact write a piece regarding this in the original Cuss Cards book. However, it drove me into a deep depression which accounted for my absence from the scene for a while, and on the advice of my partner, I never actually published it (only to a few priivate customers). There is a darkness in the Cuss Cards that is unmatched in any other effect, at it deals with things that are sewn into the human psyche; brutal thinking that we see surface in our culture time and time again.

It can be played to one person, but it would be a little too intence I feel. It can also be performed on stage (although, as I am not a stage performer, this is conjecture), a stage performance would take the same form as an audience watching a seance or a hypnotism show. I think that there is a lot of untapped potential in it for a semi-improvised drama, I really do. Each card could be a chapter of the story, the audience could be 'instant-actors' (why not, if we can have instant stooges....?)
However, the ideal performance for me is a parlour setting. Odd as it may sound, Cuss Cards is a social event. It works on the interaction of the small group gathered. Oh, there is so much pleasure in this; in terrifying the easily terrified, in goading and challenging the rational minded, in showing people the horrors that lie so close to the surface of their civility!

As to the story, I think I have used a different one each time! I hate things to be fixed and unresponsive to the performer, the audience or the current set of circumstances. So, yes, please do create your own story. The more I think about things, the more I move away from providing 'tricks' or specific routines. I think we need tools, not tricks. We need ideas to explore, new challenges to keep our creativity supple. This is not always born out in sales, as the more I move away from giving simple 'tricks' the less I sell.

But....

We should be risk takers and explorers, we should leave the mundane behind.....

It is my belief that here we are the most creative and exploratory of all of the branches of our art. So we do not need tricks. Tricks get in the way.. The purpose of what we do is to put the audiences imagination center stage and explore the fringes, is it not? I would like to think that, at it's best, this is what the Cuss Cards do. It is a huge psychological bomb that you defuse just before it is set off!

Sorry, went into soapbox mode.... Did I eat too much sugar?

So there are no versions of cuss cards left? and yes I'm looking forward t9o october. that's my xmass.

Christopher, as to tricks, I'm not at that stage in my evolution my friend. I have thousands of magic tricks to draw from but that's not the path I'm taking. mental, psychological, interactive performance where all the emotions are touched on. a strong story to bind it all together and create an experience that is lived and shared not just watched like a tv show.

any tools I can get that help that is worth more to me then any of the magic tricks ever created. please don't let my avatar fool you, that is for now shows where the simple magician is asked for.

and thank you for the great response as it did in fact answer my posting.

Back story? Oh, you're about to delve into the mother of all back stories! The way the performance unfolds is wickedly beautiful. Slowly unveiling itself until it culminates with a moral dilemma that only the spectator can resolve.

And we haven't even mentioned that the cards are a true work of art.

Hi Michael, the Elite Cuss Cards have sold out, but the standard Kings set (which still has everything you need to perform the same routine) is still available here: http://alchemy-moon.co.uk/kings%20cussing%20cards.htm
