To drop my statement immediately: I believe it is VERY important to not only look the part, but also smell the part! When I was a member of a magician magic club I have often noticed how bad magicians actually smell. Some smelled literally like old sweat or have a very vile stench coming out of their mouths (think cigarettes or something else). These magicians actually performed in the real world...
Maybe I am overacting, but how many of you think it is important to smell good during performance? I think everybody right? It is my opinion that a magician shouldnt carry only decks of cards and spongeballs in their suitcase but also some nice EDT. What EDT do you magicians use? My top votes go to: Boss Bottled: classic, smells good and gets me compliment. Also it is very safe and not over the top Armani Acqua di Gio: Another very safe bestseller. It doen't project like crazy and smells quite good (think citral) Cartier Decleration I wouldn't recommend something like 1 million by Paco Rabanne for performing, since it is too much (projects like crazy in a 2 feet range  ).

I wear Old spice deodorant, and I keep a pack of breath mints in my car. I have Tide to go stain remover plus a fresh shirt and tie in my car too. It's all about the ladies.

Its all about making a good lasting impression. And with that comes good grooming, smelling good and looking the part. The ladies are ofcourse an added bonus! |

I have never had a man compliment me on my cologne or my color combination, but most women notice smells, and colors. Trust me It's all about the ladies. Once I had a woman whisper in my ear "I wish I could get my husband to dress like you".

There are far toooo many people out there with Asthma, MCS, respiratory diseases etc...... PLEASE do NOT put on cologne, perfume, body spray etc....... when you go to entertain people!!!!!!! You are causing people physical distress and pain. This surely cannot be your goal? As someone who suffers when exposed to scented products I know how inconsiderate people can be without even realizing it. More and more companies and places of business as well as schools, gyms, and other public places are going scent free. People applying for jobs are told not to wear scented products to the interview by career coaches. PLEASE reconsider your habit of applying a scented product for the sake of those you wish to entertain. This is not only a quality of life issue, it can also be a matter of life and death! I'm talking about smelling bad vs smelling good. Most magicians I met just smelled bad. I feel sorry for putting it this bluntly, but that is the way it is. I am not talking about applying half a bottle of perfume, but just about smelling good. Well applied Eau-de-toilette helps with that. As does showergel and a chewing gum 
btw, I'm not causing anything. All I ever got was that I smelled good

That is probably because the people that were being. Negatively affected were being too polite to say anything. Believe me, there is no such thing as only a little scent. Proper bathing and hygiene is important. But you can do it unscented. Think of how much scent you are actually putting on. There is the shampoo and conditioner. The shaving gel and aftershave. The deodorant and bar of soap along with your laundry soap and fabric softener. THEN, you put on your toilet water or cologne. You are hurting people in your audience. Close to 40 million Americans are negatively affected by scents. Most are too polite to say anything to someone directly. They chooses instead to try and avoid you. But, they are there and you are hurting them. Someone with severe Asthma and scents as the trigger can be hospitalized or worse because of you. Others who are negatively affected
Ah only suffer migraines, breathing difficulties or other such problems because of you. You have the right to put on your scented products. I have the right not to have to smell you. Now, suppose you have been hired to perform at a small private function and I prone of the 40 million others are part of your audience. Have you still not hurt anyone? I am outspoken and passionet about this topic as you can tell. |

Wrong Wrong Wrong. And I will not debate the point.
I use Armani Code. You need to look good and smell good. Your breath needs to smell good. I have seen too many times where people in public places or in the public eye just plain smell bad. It is usually a reflection of bad hygene and usually leaves a very bad impression. |

No debate and. No escaping the truth. What you think smells good is hurting people. Period. What you choose to do now that you are aware of that fact, is totally up to you.

And covering body odor with a scented cologne is horrible hygiene! Why not just bathe properly with unscented soap and put on some unscented deodorant? Then you will not smell at all and offend no one.

DOLCE & GABBANA recently came out with a Very Light Scent for Both Men/Women it is a Uni-sex Cologne and the women love this. I just bought a bottle at a place called ULTA Beauty and every woman in the place that I had smell the cologne fell in love with it as the scent is so nice.

Well, because I am aware of the problem. I live with it. I have taken the time to educate myself about it. I am also a high school teacher of 25 years and have learned of just how common a problem this is first hand. I am a little different than the majority of those I have met in life or on line, in that I will speak up when confronted with a situation directly to the smelly person. Most wish to simply avoid the person. I choose to embarrass them, if nothing else, by calling attention to them. Then, if nothing else, they might associate putting on their scents with meeting me and it might upset them just a little. Why don't you try a little experiment? Why not ask people you know if they ever got a headache or felt sick after smelling someone's perfume or cologne. You may, or may. It, be surprised at how many people have suffered for another person's choices.

I can't stand when someone smells like they buy cologne by the 55 gallon drum! I can't breathe around them. All the scent I need is my deodorant.
Nothing beats good hygiene. Powder down with corn starch, after a shower, if you're going to sweat. I don't understand why some don't shower often, when it takes so little time. |

There is a difference between wearing gallons of cologne and wearing cologne at all. I've been told that if someone can smell your cologne outside of kissing distance, you're wearing too much. Having said that, I've never had anyone inside of kissing distance complain. Of course they shouldn't be able to smell your body odor regardless of distance.
