I tried to get to a page on the "Time Travel Confusion" thread and my system told me this site had a link to a site called "slashfilm.com" that would install malware onto my computer.

Help?

I don't know if someone has already fixed the problem or not but I tried all the pages and links and there doesn't seem to be a problem.

The only reference to slashfilm is this

http://www.slashfilm.com/wp/wp-content/images/zz59ebc0ca.jpg

It's only a picture and I don't get any warnings about malware.

I get a warning when trying to view the image via Firefox:

Site is listed as suspicious - visiting this web site may harm your computer.

Part of this site was listed for suspicious activity 5 time(s) over the past 90 days.

Same here. The simple solution if the OP wants us to see the image is to host it somewhere else.

I've tried linking when in IE, firefox and safari and am still not getting an error. The link only loads the picture.

First things first here: That warning is just that - a warning. It doesn't mean the images or links posted here on the Café are necessarily bad. That being said, however, five suspicious activity listings are five too many for me. Even Google lists slashfilm.com as a potentially harmful site.

Be afraid. Be VERY afraid. Smile

If some people are getting a warning and some people aren't, my advice would be to avoid the site and any link to it. Better safe than sorry!

When I posted that image (yes it was me) I found it by doing a Google image search on time travel. I did this from work on a government computer which have very good firewalls and using the strict option on the Google search. Most sites are blocked to me while at work and if an image will load for me there it will load for everyone everywhere (Photobucket/Smug Mug/etc are blocked). I didn't get any warning there, or even here at home on my IMac using Firefox.

Guess it's like anything else. Be careful out there. I use Norton internet security among others and doing a search on google and bing both have approvals by Norton as being a safe site. However, I would follow Gene's advise at all times.

This is what I get using Firefox when I go to the link given by Dave.

However, if I simply enter in slashfilm.com on the Norton: “Is this Website Safe” I get THIS

My rule of thumb is this: If one browser or anti-malware utility says a site is unsafe while another browser or utility says it's safe...trust the one that says it's unsafe. Better to be too careful than not careful enough.

Yep, pretty insane and I can't explain it. When I enter in slashfilm.com on my browser (which I didn't do before) I get the AVG WARNING to get the hell out of there! Bottom line, albeit I never heard of the site, much less being interested in it; I wouldn't touch it with the proverbial ten foot pole. I just can't explain why Norton would say that the site is safe? Then again, I hate Norton just about as much I hate Internet Explorer, but that is neither here nor there and not important to the issue. Puzzling to say the least..........

When all is said and done; better to be safe than sorry. Smile
