I saw this trick many years ago and have never seen it since. Two rubberbands are interlaced between your two hands and fingers. The participant holds a bill that has been folded over one of the rubberbands. With slight finger movements, the bill jumps up and down the rubber band ladder. Does anyone have a copy they'd wish to sell or know where I can find it?

Dan Harland I'm pretty sure it was on his "Band Shark" DVD, but if it isn't he has a three DVD set of rubber band magic too.

"Traveling Cash" by Dan Harlan. I think it was origionally on one of his MAGIC WITH RUBBER BANDS videos. A streamlined version called "Traveling Tips" is on the BANDSHARK dvd. It doesn't use a bill, the spectator simply holds the top strand with their fingertips and that strand continually jumps to a lower position.

I thought it was Daniel Garcia myself on one of his project DVD's.

It is but I think Harlan did it originally. He does quite a lot of rubber band material. At any rate, Harlan's version came out much earlier.

Thanks guys! The name was Traveling Cash. A great magic shop in the Raleigh Durham area showed it to me and I bought the elastrix volumes 1 & 2 back then, only to discover that trick was not one of the ones in there! At least I got the original version of the linking rubberbands from it.

Traveling Cash was also in Harlan's November 1988 Minotaur and at least one set of lecture notes.

Daniel Garcia has about three ok rubber band tricks, and Dan Harlan has four DVD's dedicated to rubber band magic. I learned "Traveling Cash" from Dan Harlan but I can't remember which DVD of his I learned it from.

If you want an updated version of the effect, I recommend my friend Marcus Eddie's Stairway. And if you want a single band version, then have a look at Daniel Garcia's work on Five, which interestingly enough....I think Marcus is on that video too. The video download should be on Theory 11.

Marcus's version is very cool looking but trickier than the original. I never quite got the hang of it.
