Today I bought Bobo's New Modern Coin Magic and it is excellent. However, being a beginer at coins, it is a little intimidating. However, with a little bit of thought and concentration it is very good.
there are a few mistakes like in the drop vanish it says "hold your left hand a little lower than your left hand" but with a bit of thought it's easy to interpret the hard bits! james |

Answer to P T Flea's question is yes. Opie Houston has posted a really good study guide to Bobo and you should look at it. It will tell you what to look at first and what to put off until you are more proficient.
You can get the guide here: http://www.zyworld.com/coinpurse/articles90.htm Try it out

"hold your left hand a little lower than your left hand"
That's under "advanced manipulations", it's a tough move.

To put the Mystery to an end,
The HARDCOVER version "The New Modern Coin Magic" has 4 additional chapters compared to the Dover reprint being sold today. Track that one down if you are a coin addict. You'll feel proud that you did. I have it myself. Got it for 6$ US last month and is a 1991 version! Very good condition for its price. Hope this helps. |

After watching Ammar's recent "Complete Introduction to Coin Magic" and the first of the David Roth videos, reading Bobo is very easy indeed. In fact, there's almost nothing in those two videos that aren't covered in Bobo (I haven't seen Roth II or III).
Before I saw those videos, Bobo was a bit dense and intimidating for me to plow through. I am now enjoying it immensely. I've done stage/parlor magic for so many years, and I am experiencing a "growth stage" in close up. Bobo's book is a gem for me right now. |
