Thanks to all who've given kind words. I am also glad that I've sparked interests in a few members here. I hope that when something does get released, I hope that it'll be as well recieved as it has here. For those that have brought up real world situations. Almost anything can be used in a real world situation. It matters not of the props or methods, but rather....the magician's knowledge and ability to adiquately utilize his resources. As a magician, you should never limit yourself. Your motto should always be adapt and overcome. Example: If you have a small crowd, use all the angle sensitive material you'd want. A crowd that surrounds you, use materials that can be done surrounded. A large crowd..., manage your crowd smartly and stick with things that are in between angle-sensitive and surround. Fact of the matter..., know your venue and audiences, everything else should fall in place.

This is a vanish that I have been using for some time now. 6 years to be exact. It is nothing but a retention vanish. I just like the idea that it is done smooth and slow. As far as natural movements is concerned... there is no fidgity moves.. It looks nothing more like an attempt to be slow and deliberate... almost trying to look fair. Definitely there are many more vanishes out there that are way superior than this... But do try it. Notice that there is practically no movement on the right hand. As for clean ups and hand washing... it is just my personal opinion that too much of it only calls for suspicion. The video only shows the move... perhaps I can find time and do a full video. I believe that for a vanish to be successful... it is just as important to set the tone and to give it a closure after. I hope I am making sense and articulate it well... I believe that after a clear vanish... there is no need to prove. A natural gesture... a subtle gesture would suffice. The energy put to the vanish must be relaxed after. After all the coin has disappeared... Oh well.. I am blabbering here and causing some annoyance.. hahaha.
here it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nSIoZkDbGA&feature=g-upl this here is not a vanish video... but perhaps this can explain what I mean by cutting' and relaxing after a vanish... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehGuw5Zw_XU&feature=g-upl Just wanted to share.

I must congratulate you guys for your wonderful videos... those vanishes look pretty! Looks great! Highly technical. I don't think I could maneuver coins that well even if I tried. You guys have serious skill! A little more slower perhaps.., more natural and more motivations for each gestures maybe just a tad
...BAM! YOU HAVE A MAJOR MIRACLE! Everything is invisible..at least there are no flashes... but to some of you... pls reexamine the naturalness of the hands and the moves. Having said that.. I am sincerely impressed with the new moves. Cheers from Manila!

I must add... in REAL LIFE situations.... when magic is not just a passion but WORK... Nothing beats the old reliable simple vanish. I have been working with both magicians and laymen. A simple , natural and well motivated vanish supported by a simple gesture and closure does the most effective and believable job. Just my 2 cents. This is a great thread. Carry on gentlemen!

I think we should take risks to make good, sometimes it was a good idea and we think it is too risky and it could be that its not work, but with hard work and training could do a lot of good things, then in my opinion angles and difficult move should not be a problem for us

@Rannie, I have to agree with you that sometimes the simplest can be the best and most practical yes and the harada hold results in a very stiff looking hand, but I guess that what you decide to perform has great relation with your environments, I would never perform the vanish as a single 'trick', maybe for one or two people at most. Doing this in real life, a little misdirection brings attention from the hands, hopefully with much more practice I can get the stiffness down to a minimum. As with most 'complete' vanishes, limited angles is something that cannot be avoided however magic is more of a passion for me at the moment and mastering difficult sleights can be a very rewarding aspect.

Alchemy by Ben Seidman is very nice. Although he presents how to convert coin into another small item and vanish itself is very very powerful. Plus, you end up clean ;-)

I think of a clip of Johnny Carson. He did a simple vanish of a coin for a young boy, and made it reappear.
The boy asked, how do you make it really disappear? Carson's immediate reply, "get married"

Honestly 99% of the time I just use a false transfer. I'm very much of the Gregory Wilson school of thought, that anything else seems fishy. However if I want to do a more magical vanish, then I just use a retention vanish. Heres a quick vid of mine

Josh,
Index finger popping high; might want to work on that. Thanks! Jim |

Yeah, but... Josh's retention pass is extremely natural, smooth... I haven't seen something like that !
I love this grip and this vanish... Even if I don't know the exact name ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nujHJbBFAB8&feature=plcp (translation : "If the rabbit was late... 'cause he lost his watch ?") You can do a vanish, a production by misdirection or not, put the coin in your mouth with a misdirection... Do a change, transfer in down palm... During a performance, I love a simple theft (Do you translate it like that ? A coin stolen from your hand) is very effective, 'cause some spectators aren't convinced by the false put (false transfer, maybe ? The basic technic), and with a stolen coin, that's a different perception, 'cause the coin was here before the beginning ! |

Its called the J.W grip by Jimmy Wilson. And yes, there are thousands of ways to vanish a coin, what works best for you is all a matter of personal preference.

Trear,
Tell you what - you put the coin in your mouth... I'll use an ROV instead! And yes, Josh's retention vanish was pretty smooth... except that popping index finger! Take a look at some of these by Denis Behr: http://www.office2020.de/denisbehr/denis_behr_retention1.WMV http://www.office2020.de/denisbehr/denis_behr_retention2.WMV http://www.office2020.de/denisbehr/denis......tip2.WMV Thanks! Haha thanks guys! Yeah I blame the finger popping on never learning the Retention Vanish properly, it was something I figured out myself when I first started magic. Thanks for the tip though, I have it down now where the finger doesn't keep popping up. Took like five seconds to fix once someone pointed it out lol
