I signed up for Monday through Friday for the 2013 FCM convention, first time also my wife Maggie will be with me for the entire time. She enjoyed the Creativity at Sea Tour earlier this year and Abbott's last summer, hope this is starting a trend! We need more spouses at these magic conventions for sure...

One total sidebar: the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles are in the "Sweet 16" of this year's NCAA Division I basketball tourney. They were beaten by the Lipscomb University Bison basketball team TWICE this year- in part due to LU having the second highest scoring freshman center in the country in Stephen Hunter. Go Lipscomb University Bisons! (and home of the 2013 International FCM convention).

This will be the first time Brett and I have been able to go to the international convention in a few years, and I'm incredibly excited! Looking forward to seeing you all there!

I was with MagicBob last night at Ring 211 for the excellent Dan Garrett lecture- MagicBob and SuZie are performing on the Friday night show at the 2013 FCM convention- plus will be in Nashville the entire week! (as well as will be my wife Maggie and myself). MagicBob LOVES to table hop, so I will have more courage this year to do that as well at the Caféteria. MagicBob does close up at the drop of a hat (his pockets are always full of new effects)- be sure to ask him to show you something in Nashville. He of course is an excellent stage magician too, and SuZie will be doing some chalk art Friday night.

Oh oh, I'd better bring my pocketbook. My wife Maggie, bless her heart, no doubt will just have to have her nails done... Maybe she can go to Harvey W's hair salon.

Hey, everyone, be sure to bring your close up magic to the FCM convention. And don't be shy about bringing it out in the Caféteria, between lecture sessions, etc.. One of the joys of the FCM convention for me is when people bring out their favorite close up stuff and share it with others including myself. You don't need an invitation or a sign up sheet- just carry it around as you see fit and share your favorite routines when you can. Or, at a minimum, do what you have at the "late late" shows that are very informal and pretty like an "open mike" opportunity. What a hoot- see you in July! I at least can show everyone my new "Roger Magic Bus" customized closeup pad which I got today from Mike Stenberg of the FCM (see the latest issue of "The Voice of the FCM" for an ad on this). Now I need to make my close up magic as classy as my new pad!

The workshop schedule for the 2013 FCM convention is now posted at http://www.FCM.org
Wow- great lineup. Includes MAGIC lectures by Bruce Amato, Aaron Gillam, Bob Hill, David Ginn, Matthew Miller, Gary Barker, Joseph Young, Jay Rumple, Barry Mitchell, Desi Payne, Joey Evans, Dave Hill, our Café's own Harris III, Ricky Henson, Justin Flom, Jorgen Johansen, Brett Myers, Dana Hill, Lohren Meier, Mark Shortland, Doug Anderson, Steve Varro, Paul Ricksecker, Kent Sheets, Scott Humston, Nathan Roberts, etc. Are you kidding me? There is not a magic convention in the entire U.S. that has so many magic lectures for such a low cost. Duane Laflin did another great job lining up all these lecturers for the FCM, impressive. Off course, there all also a zillion other lectures on balloons, clowning, face art, juggling, puppets, storytelling, chalk, drama and ventriloquism. Yowsa. |

If you are planning to be on being on campus by Sunday afternoon and want to join Harvey Barfenfloss on a Comedy Redneck tour of Nashville, just Email me and let me know. The time is 3pm to 5pm and the cost is $30.00. I think there are only a half dozen seats left so email me and I'll send you the flyer. (It was too large to attach here (90KB)) My E-mail is stevevarro@gospelmagic.com

I wish I could be there Steve for sure, but not getting in until Monday. I really would have liked to go on this tour, maybe repeat it again during the convention week sometime?
One thing my wife and I are planning to do while in Nashville is take the tour of "The Gideons" international headquarters (located in Nashville)- I am President of the SE Michigan Gideons Camp and Maggie is V.P. of the Gideons SE Michigan Auxiliary here. I heard it was a pretty neat tour on seeing the huge printing and warehouse areas and learning about the free worldwide distribution of Bibles through the Gideons organization. They do so much more than placements in hotels and prisons now, Gideons distributions include city blitzes, college campuses, festivals, hospitals, etc. including with the snazzy covered "Modern English Version" Testament which has in it both a handy topical index and a clear plan of salvation. Fired up! I will bring my "Thy Word Is True" changing block puzzle to the FCM convention that I just worked up using simple children's blocks and duct tape (see "The Good News" heading below). |
