Have great content. Video and pictures are the most looked at things on facebook.
If you take pictures with people at your shows, hand them a card with a QR code and your facebook link on it for them to post and tag the picture. Otherwise I say just have solid content and tell all your friends. If your content is solid they'll share it with their friends. |

Well we also muist clarify what we mean by a fan. A peroper fan is one that is a lay person who is a decision maker and has the power and the possible desire to hire you directly for an event in the market/s you work. THOSE are the fans you want on your fan page.

But speaking only for me and my personal experience - contrary to the basis of your 'fan' criteria, I get most of my gigs from my 'friends' and friends of those friends. Friends are also decision-makers or can make recommendations to people that seeking entertaInment. I know that the differences between fans and friends has been discussed at length, but I fail to see the distinction. My facebook page is full of photos (of all the photos on there, I've posted only about a dozen. Friends add the rest) and comments. How would it be different if they were 'fans?' Are you guys over thinking this? Are you trying to project some presumed, but unproven, idealized marketing gimmick as the new standard by which we should all strive to attain? Can you back up that there is a distinct advantage to having fans versus friends? I'm just saying it works for me, and I won't presume to speak for your experience. But I'm pretty much a non-conformist all the way around. |

So you get so much work from your friends on facebook that you don't need any stinken fan page.
If you can't see past your nose please don't share it with us.

Actually Al, you should have a Fan/Business Page even if your business comes from "friends", as Facebook now frowns on promotion of any kind for your business on your personal page. And, of course this is subject to THEIR interpretation.
So even with "friends" whom you may wish to "promote" to (soft sell), it is best done through your Fan/Business page, or special "event" invites. Your Fan/Business page is where tagged show photos, testimonials etc. should go or be moved to. Yes, some folks still use their personal page for their business but they run the risk of having their page shut down. Blair

Thanks for the tip Blair I never do any sort of advertising on my personal page, and I do nothing but promote myself on my fan page.
Blair Are you putting all of those large audience shots that you've been posting on facebook on your fan page too? They are some impressive shots.

Al, I think if you look again you will find they are ONLY on my Fan/Business page. I do let the occasional business photo/posting on about my magic on my personal page but I try to be careful as to volume of it. My short Santa video is currently up on my personal page, but only for the moment, it will "disappear" in the near future.
