Brian, Faulkner is right on this one. The buskers rule is "it is easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission." You will not get a ticket if busking is not allowed unless you smart mouth the cop. The worse that will happen is a warning that busking is forbidden and the reply is "OH! Sorry I didn't know!" and then stop.
When I go on vacation I work in every city we go to. I was at the Minneapolis Aquatennial and working the crowds. Was being watched by 2 cops and when I used my hat line they stepped in and told me that NO HAT LINES. OK I quit but I had already made colse to $200 when they shut me down. |

Oh I didn't realize they wouldn't ticket, that's good to know. Still, I can't even try busking until next weekend, so I see no reason not to research in the meantime.

I was in your exact place almost exactly a year ago. What I did was went to my nearest flea amrket to start. I also do some basic balloon animals. But my first day I did only magic. It's not the best crowd but it really helped me get a start. For busking laws just call you local police station and ask what the laws are. The laws (I've foudn) are usually about asking for tips... you can't always. But you should be able to perform. You can read... and it will help... but just getting out there and trying it is how I learned. Flea markets and farmers markets are a great place to start.

I hadn't thought of flea markets, that's a great idea. Not too far away is a flea market, and I used to sell there for something to do one summer, so I know the people who work there and some of the vendors. I wonder if I couldn't even rent a booth (10$) and set up...
My wife has found a few festivals coming up, and I have contacted the ones that I could do, so maybe that'll pan out as well. thanks to all |

Buy the Will Stelfox The business of street magic. I believe that the more people perform in the way he suggests the better for magic. Clear instruction. The things he says, I have experienced.
Buy it, then do it (IMHO of course ;o) ). Danny |

I do only one balloon balloon animals and sell them for $2. Use magic to lure them in and ask if they want a balloon... most parents will pay 2 bucks to shut their kids up for a bit I've raked in a few hundred at festivals for basic balloons! Best of luck!!! |

You will always learn more from working the streets than any video, book, or piece of advice. Honestly what you will learn on the street will be both more valuable and cost you less than anything else.

Heh, I know quite a few balloon animals, I just can't stand making them lol! And gr8gorilla, I believe that. I haven't been able to have the time, but I have been doing stuff more at college between classes when I'm bored, if nothing else to get in some performance time and crowd control practice. I've started tutoring in German, and that has taken a lot of my free time.
