Over Labor Day Weekend during the Houdini Club of Wisconsin Convention, I purchased a 12 inch by 25 foot Rice's Rainbow Streamer in outstanding condition for a fair price.

I'm going to use it instead of my Abbott's 12 inch by 25 foot streamer next time I do Duke's Dye Version, just to see if there's any difference in audience reaction.....

For those who have never seen one, here's what they look like:

I must say that Harold Rice was a true artist....his silk designs were, and are to this day, true works of art in both design and execution.

I have been using a Rice Streamer to perform Duke's Dye Version since the 1970's. I also switched to Rice silks and a Rice Gimmick.

Kevinar:

If you've ever seen or handled an original Rice's Streamer, trust me, you will be impressed.....they are magnificent, in my opinion.

And the $850 Rice's charges is for a 36 inch by 50 foot streamer.......that's a whole different ball game than a 12 inch by 25 foot streamer...besides.....talk about cover for productions....you could produce a person or two from that load!!!

Bill Hegbli....my assumption is that you're using a Rice's 3 1/2 Club or 5 inch stage-size dye tubes...is that correct?.....And how would you compare your Rice's Dye Tube to the Standard Abbott's gimmick....I ask because I like the Abbott's gimmick........built like a tank and good weight for quick dumping....

Bill would not need to use the Rice tubes. The original gimmick would work as the streamer can fit in anything. The Abbott's gimmick is great in rough neighborhoods....you can use like a brass Knuckle.

$850 for a 36" x 50' is a great price. I would charge probably $1300 to $1600 for the same. I have made streamers 45" wide and it is a pain to dye them.

Thank you for the nice comments about the beautiful Rice's Rainbow Streamers. Unfortunately, they are literally flying out the door. The following, including the 36" X 50' streamer, are all sold out! All the ones on the website http://www.silkkingmagic.com are available EXCEPT: #127/50 12" X 50' streamer; #129/50 36" X 50' streamer; and the #122 3' X 9' streamer.

Duke Stern published his routine in the Linking Ring Magazine for the IBM organization. His routine originally used a plunger dye tube. I used Abbott's for years, until I stumbled on the actual method Duke Stern used and published. As most magic manufacturers, Abbott's took the easy way out on the gimmick. I find there is some advantages to using a Baker type dye tube.

With the Abbott's dye tube you have to use 15 inch silks, as that is what comes with the Abbott model, or did originally, what they provide today, who knows, they have become so lazy and don't want to make anything anymore.

If you note the in the instructions, they say to put the loose silks in the ends of the tube, very difficult with the Abbott's gimmick, but is a great advantage with the Rice Dye Tubes.

I bought all 3 from Ruth and found the one I like the best. These Dye Tubes are of the finest in the world today. They will never make this type of product ever again at this quality.

Ruth is wonderful to work with and has always come through with any questions and needs I have had. We will never see a magic dealer like her again either. She goes the extra mile for her customers.
