This morning during hall duty, I played patriotic songs on my harmonica.

Second hour I was asked into a high school's Life Skills class.

They were discussing the time line of the events on 9/11.

The teacher asked me to join in as well as play one of the songs for her students.

I chose God Bless America. Prior to playing it, we discussed the meaning of each line. I even shared being confused about the "purple mountains", until I saw how the light actually does make the mountains seem purplish. I was raised in Kansas.
I didn't see real mountains until I moved to Reno, Nevada.

"And crown thy good, with brotherhood," we talked about the meaning of brotherhood and how it connected with character education.

9/11 was watershed moment

I lost a good friend in that. He worked for a finance company. He was found in the rubble. I cannot imagine the horror. Nothing will ever be the same. Everything has changed...
