I think DELETING ebay links (such as the ones I posted for magicians here looking for coins) is a mistake.

These links were "a magician helping magicians" to find items that are hard to get.

The main reason that e-bay links are not allowed is that e-bay links change very rapidly, they are only good for a few days. We do not have the staff to keep up with all the url's if we allowed e-bay links, it would make it too difficult for the staff to keep checking them and make sure that they work. So we ask that no e-bay url's are put up. However, you may use the pm service to send a url to another member alerting them to an e-bay link.

From the Magic Transaction guidelines:

"No matter what category is used (Dvd's, books, etc), absolutely No posts advertising items with links to auction sites such as Ebay, Magic Auction, etc will be allowed. Members looking for items on auction sites should pay those sites a visit. Posts that violate this rule will be removed. No exceptions!"

Pete, while I certainly understand wanting to help a fellow entertainer looking for something hard to find, the above rules are in place for the reasons Mya gave.

It's just way too difficult to keep track of which Ebay links are still valid, and which ones are not. We get a slew of complaints from members as is, complaining about posts which include links that are no longer working. Auction site listings are valid for but a short amount of time.

However, I would encourage you to pass on such links via private message or email to those looking for a particular item which you have seen on sites such as Ebay. Thanks soooo much for taking the time to help others.
