Hi,

Recently I find that my turtle is clever than I expect and he able to differentiate the colour
and memorize the shape or number.

And I want him in the magic routine and become the assistant ,
since children like him so much when taking him to kindergarten.

Is there magician did such thing before?

Btw, this is my pet , Nelson, you may also like him after watching it.

I realize English is not your first language, but I believe Mr. Nelson is a African Spurred Tortoise, not a turtle.

I think your pet could work well in a BD except that they can carry salmonella (like all reptiles) which is potentially fatal to children . . . so some parents may object. However, it seems much more likely to catch salmonella from a turtle than a tortoise - so in this case you are lucky!. I believe, for this reason, pet stores here in the States don't carry turtles like they did when I was a child. I had two Red-eared Sliders for years.

A tortoise and turtle's lungs are on it's back, so they can suffocate when on their back. It is also very stressful for them, and they have been known to die from the stress by being on their back. I believe, the reason your tortoise defecated when on his back was he literally had the "sh!t" scared out of him.

I'm sorry about being a "Debbie Downer", but you obviously love your pet and I thought you should know.

It seem like that I mix up Turtle and Tortoise.

I also feel surprise after watching video and after that ,
the gate locked forever when I go out.( I don't want it die so soon)

Btw, do yo think Tortoise involve in the part of magic routine is attractive or effective?

Very few things are by themselves "attractive or effective" in a magic routine. That all depends on how you the magician will employ the item. (And honestly, I don't know that a tortise by itself is either of those things ... )

A live animal isn't like any other prop. You must take extra care when transporting to and from shows. I've got a >>mechanical<< chicken that I can just toss in a box and carry in my trunk for hours - do not try that with your tortise or any other live animal!!

They have personalities and moods, and can always be counted on to do the unexpected in your magic routines. You as the performer are expected to make what your animal does "attractive or effective" - *whatever* it is that they are doing!! (Even if it leave "memories" on your table or in your hands!)

So -- do you have a routine crafted that can make whatever your tortise does "attractive" and "effective"? Can you make the magic work no matter what the animal decides to do, not do, or do-do? Personally, I feel that if the magic works well without the animal, I would leave it out. I would only use an animal if the magic - by that, I mean the whole entertainment value of the routine - works better if the animal is included.

I disagree with Ed here. Animals in and of them selves are interesting and a great selling tool too. Of course, how you use the animal makes a difference. I have currently had a rash of people asking me how many animals I bring. I believe this is because my competition brings doves, bunnies, rats , sugar gliders and a monkey . . . so just having an animal is a plus for many moms, and a petting zoo is better in many cases.

Just remember to have hand sanitizer, and be careful Mr. Nelson doesn't bite any kid who pokes him. You also want to consider what your animal thinks about being swarmed by kids. My parrot loves the attention, but many animals don't like it at all.

I think Mr. Nelson could be a benefit for a small birthday party since kids love animals. On the other hand, in a larger show he could be hard to see.
