I am sitting in front the pc listening to Knox Arcana for inspiration for this upcoming all hollows eve performance season.
the artist Raises his agile brush At midnight without constraint Driven by a disturbing dream Reaches for palette and paint With sweat pouring from his brow This style was not his norm With chaotic strokes and streaks of black A woman had begun to form She stared back from that canvas deep With eyes that held no light This was the source of his nightmarish dream Her grin of vicious delight But then that portrait came alive! In the midst of the apartments gloom He began to pace and shook in fright Her eyes followed him around the room The door to the apartment was holding fast And high upon the third floor The windows could offer no safe escape Supernaturally sealed was the door Within the kitchen he took up a knife Thinking to end the horror in a short while But in fear he dropped the sharp edged blade As the woman continued to smile Backing away and with his eyes wide She reeked of evil and sin For her smile soon melted away Revealing a wicked fanged grin Time passed and a scent filled the apartment And the landlord soon arrived A horrid sight was to meet his eyes The artist no longer alive No blood was found in the artist's body And yet another thing was found amiss Why did the artist have his paints exposed Before an empty, plain canvas? sometimes it feels like battling for inspiration to create art that will have meaning and still have a strong punch of entertainment value. at other times the muse strikes me hard and fast with inspiration of devilish delights to taunt and tease my sitters with. what inspires you? what makes you an artist of the arcane arts? |

That is a remarkable poem, Michael.
I will sit in my den alone with the prop/routine/idea and simply free associate: what else could it be? What stories could it be used to tell? Sometimes random ideas come...sometimes it's a pile of fragments. But if I keep at it long enough, something will come shambling out of my imagination and become real. I like Nox Arcana as well as Alice. Many times I'll listen to movie soundtracks because they don't ordinarily have words, but the music is passionate and fits perfectly with the process without interrupting it. Sometimes I will flip through magazines or old pictures. Sometimes I just let my mind wander. But the free association, the drifting imagination, is what works for me. A very interesting topic. David
