Hi all!
I've bought a spool of IT from pengui***.com. It came with a video explaining "the million dollar knot". This is supposed to be the best way to make loops from the spool. The guy in the video is using some kind of wax to work with the IT. I have no idea what kind of wax he is using. Do you guys know? Or, how do you tie YOUR loops? :) |

Magician's wax. Google it.
You can use the sticky stuff that comes on mailers now-a-days. You aren't using the wax to affix anything, you're just using it to make the thread visible and manageable, right? Even blue tack would work for this. You may wish to get magician's wax but anything, even a blob of tape would get you through the project. You want it to stick and provide a little weight. -Mary Mowder |

Ahh! Thank you!
Yes, you are right. I am only using it while I tie the knots. Quote:

This is the product I use and highly recommend.
You can make up to a full body loop. He even has a carry in you pocket, in the field system. Using this system I have seem him in person make a loop in less then ten seconds (he was timed). http://www.subdividedstudios.com/Trinity_System.html It's a Trillion dollar knot. Jerry |

Thank you very much Jerry! But I have to say, this seems kinda expensive.. I've tried googling to see what could justify the price but I found no picture. My guess is that the design is so unique that it a picture would spawn several copy-cats. Am I right?

By mailers I mean magazines and coupon books that have a line of sticky stuff that stretches as you pull it of. It is usually used to keep a booklet or flyer closed.

You can also use beeswax - usually sold at craft shops in the candle making supplies. Don't get a block, instead go for the thin sheets that have a honeycomb pattern stamped into them. One sheet is a lifetime supply.

Loops have become quite inexpensive. I used to cringe with every breakage but now don't sweat it. Is tying your own loops worth it?

Thank you everybody! I used some TAC-IT and bought some dental wax (to protect from sharp braces).
Ronnyman: You really think so? My loops broke really fast and they are $2 a piece.. If I go through three a night that really adds up.. How often do you break yours? |

My way is similar to the million dollar knot, and I perfer using steve Fearson's master wax(a little harder and not too sticky).

I admit I broke them often in the learning phase. I had to become comfortable reaching that breaking point without going past it. Now I go many performances before a breakage occurs.

Are you folks talking about the white thread, or the black thread?

A spool of the white thread comes with instructions on how to tie the knot that applies.

The Million Dollar Knot is great, the only problem I find with it is consistancy, it's taken me a lot of practice to get them close to the same each time, as for wax, I use Michael Ammar's wax, comes in a convieniant litle tub and last a really long time, I'm still on my first tub and I've had it for quite some time, I keep my thread, a pair of scissors, and my wax in my car, along with a piece of paper, they take up like no space and I find plently of spare time at school when I start running low that I can sit in my car and tie a few. anyway, here's the wax I use http://www.ammarmagic.com/michael-ammar-wax.html it's listed to be used for card on ceiling, and I've played with it for that, but I never perform it and I use the wax for everything else haha. how it compares to other wax? I'm not sure. I've never used anything else because I've yet to run out, ofc I don't use it nearly as much as some people might.
