OK here is another idea from me that I use with my WS set: I keep them in a box with a "WS Logo" on the inside lid. Inside the box are the photos, an old key (haunted key on a chain), old whistle, boarding pass and some business cards. The key on the chain with the cards are used for Docc Hilford's Living Dead Test. I start by introducing the key and whistle as old artifacts and do not tell them anything more. I then do the photos leaving them in the piles using their instinct. Before the reveal of the photos, I do the Haunted Key showing that it is possessed. Then I do Docc's Living Dead Test with the key and chain. Now I do the reveal of the photos. The last thing is the "Till Death Do Us Part" with the "Died" photos. The photo that is selected is set aside and then the spectator is asked to read the boarding pass and it is the same passenger that they selected. All of this fits in a small $10.00 box from a hobby store and becomes a full presentation. This will play 30 to 45 minutes as your original request.
I hope this helps! Jamie

Start by developing ideas for perhaps a 45-minute presentation, then cut out all the fat. You will end up with a much shorter, tighter, and much more impressive routine. I agree that convincing an audience that you have actual Titanic artifacts is probably impossible and should not be attempted. Artifacts from the priest on the Carpathia is a better idea. The priest would have been additionally traumatized because the Carpathia arrived at the scene of the sinking too late. The Titanic was already gone and there were few lifeboats, many of them only partially filled with survivors.

Wow! I didn't know about WS!
I just checked Penguin and they are OUT of stock! This is a good idea. I have always been fascinated by The Titanic. I wonder if anyone would be willing to make up something for The Edmund Fitzgerald? There were 29 men on board, unfortunately none of them survived, so that would be a totally different routine. Just tossin' out an idea there! WS is most definitely on my want list. Thanks guys! Doug |

Just had a moment to get caught up on this thread and there is some great stuff here.
I have a suggestion in regards to your idea about using the bell to ring out the time of the sinking. If you include a pocket watch as one of the priests possessions you can have the spectator blindly set a time on the watch. You can then use the bell to reveal the time and use the fact that the time matches the time of the sinking as a kicker. I do this in my seance show with a CW Genv@ Predict!on Watch, but you need not buy such an expensive piece. If you can use any time force you wish and could even do this with a spectators watch as in the presentation of Herit@ge. Best, RP |

Hello all!
Thanks for taking the time to add to this thread. I'm still working through some of the ideas. Steve, I'm going to take you up on your offer. I"ll be sending you a PM shortly. Jamie I really like a lot of your suggestions as well. I do have a question though. I don't necessarily understand the idea of the selection matching the Boarding Pass. I don't have Till Death Do Us Part just yet. I managed to buy a copy from another Café member. It should be here soon. Maybe the answer to my question will be answered then. Revenant, I really like your idea with the bell rings matching a previously chosen time. That sounds like a great idea! I'm still trying to digest all of this and put it into some kind of framework. Keep at it guys! This is all really starting to come together. Thanks again! |

Ships bells:
http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/shipbee.htm may be useful, but probably would require too much exposition-- unless you structure the story around the idea... just a thought |

A non-functioning pocket watch can easily be converted to force a time. A watchmaker charged me $20 and now I have a watch which can force any time. However, it requires handling and presentation, but the method is completely reliable.

If you can manage to get the room your spectators are sitting in to list to port about 30 degrees, I bet that would get their attention

Getting the room to list 30 degrees?....
Come on, give me a challenge! BTW, Steven routine that he references in the 1st page of this trick really is great. I like it most because it allows you to use a couple of principles to come up with a new effect that fits your individual situation. I can definitely see it fitting in here. Right now I'm working out going from WS in to an empathic kind of thing where one of the spectators picks one of the photos they identify with (preferably without me seeing) then going into a reveal of the info on the back of the photo. Still have a way to go, but I'm getting there! |

You might know that most of survivors were women and children. So that means many marriages were broken during this cold night of 1912. You can easily find some true story of lovers, honeymoons etc on the Titanic. I have a book in French mainly about it (Les Amoureux du Titanic). If you describe a touching story -not a silly or naive one like a cheap TV show- with a good storytelling you can easily turn it into a "Love beyond death" routine. Print pictures and use them as a deck of cards...a subtile force...and the lovers are together again.

I use a piece of the coal as the symbol for those that went down with the ship in my WS presentation. The haunted key is from the binocular case. The key was not on board, and thus prevented the lookouts from spotting the iceberg in time to avoid the collision. The original recently sold at auction, but replicas are easily available. In my presentation they share the curse.

How about a small block of ice that is slowly melting from the very start, and that contains a prediction at some point...the solid block would infer that its remained untouched... a heat pad underneath it and I'm sure you could work out some rough timings...

This is a fantastic titanic based effect similar to Killer Elite, but with seven o**s, and the statistically most chosen o**t is literally haunting! A fantastic effect. Check it out here
