I was wondering if people have any favorite effects of the bizarre genre that would be appropriate to be performed with a green man/nature spirit type of personal. Things that might fit this could be doing readings using bone dice, The Alchemist's Bane, and the sort.
I'm curious what other good thoughts readers here might have to contribute. Best wishes, David |

If you have karnival of magick by tony then his routine using the elements serve as b oth a micro reading and a great prediction. lota bowls for water spirit.
fuse and a candle or incense for fire spirit. pk touches for air spirit. or to represent spirit . for earth there is a routine I converted out of alain nu goes bizarre called the cures to heal someone and the effegy representing them is found in sacred earth. I can name hundreds but this will start. |

For green man: definitely something with elements. Read up on the elements, you can easily put a whole show together with this.

Also: alchemists bane is perfect.
What the others said: the effect on karnival of magick by Tony Chris is wonderful. What I would do: A simple equivoque with 4 objects (a shell for water, a candle for fire,...), if you have such a shell: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scallop) then most women will be more likely to go for that one, because it respresents water, a more female element, also standing for emotions. Also witches almanac is perfect for this... An effect involving every element: For the element of air use the Q&A in luca Volpe's book, for a one on one do a center tear and burn it for the element fire. For earth do something that involves something more earthly like a psychometry test , for water use something emotional like a living and dead test |

Has anyone done business with South Street Magic in Phidelphia? The owner there, Mr. Seth Rovner, asked me to special make a lota tea cup for him and his business from a design he sent me. I made three and sent him photos, which he approved. Long story short..... he refuses to respond to my request about the commissioned lota tea cups. I do not want to defame him or his business, but he is not treating my commision with respect or honor. Please let me know if you know him..... otherwise, I guess I have three of these for sale..... anyone want to make an offer? I will describe them to you and show you photos.

I met Seth many moons ago....11 years I think and he seemed cool and straightforward...maybe he is ill or out of touch for some reason...
As for the Green Man, it fits very well with my Macrocosm system. Cheers Todd |

The Alchemist's Bane. That takes me back. Talk about a limited edition! I wonder, how many actually took advantage of that little 2011 Christmas present?

The only Green Man I know is the cider pub just off Tottenham Court Rd, London... But I'm guessing a drunken scrumpy drinker isn't where you want to be. Or maybe it is??

Perhaps he is sick,Todd, but after three and a half months and sending messages to the business as well, I would expect he would have at least responded..... such as..... "I am sick".... or something. perhaps I am asking too much....

Great news, Seth is alive and well and he sent payment for the lota cups I special made for him..... thank you, Seth. Also, I am now custom making two new lota props.... a small pitcher without handles, and a very special antiqued, sea-encrusted, Roman-type vase with some criptic coded message symbols on it..... these are made and super cool, waiting for drying and then firing. I LOVE special projects.....

Display a green man and discuss the origins of the Green Man and symbolism and enough ideas should start flowing:
The Green Man appears across many cultures across the world. The title has been applied to many depictions of a man’s face peering out of foliage. The hair and face are often constructed from leafs. He is most common form is as a sculpture. The moods displayed vary from humour to menace or tortured souls. Often shoots are growing out of their mouths and noses. The face is almost always male, although some instances of women do exist, echoing female Gods: The Roman God of Spring and flowers, Flora and Freyr in Norse mythology. . The face is not always human: demons, cats, skulls, and lions have been found. Sometimes the Green Man may have fruit amongst his foliage. Grapes are common suggesting links to the Greek God of Wine and the harvest: Dionysus. One of the most common links made in modern times is the Green Man to the Neopagan ideas of the Holly and Oak King. The two battle it out through the year rising and falling. The Holly King reigning through Winter and the Oak through Summer. There are two great battles each year, ending with one kings death and the others rise. Alongside this you have the myths of the mating with the mother goddess bringing about the resurrection. The rise and fall of the Kings seems like an excellent plot device for the little straw voodoo dolls. If you’re interested in linking the Green Man to divination then it’s the right time of the year to be starting. Samhain is traditionally a good time for divination. With the Oak Kings death approaching and The Holly as yet unborn the veil between life and death is thin. This is a time for divination for seeking communion with the dead. To herald the change from one tree aspect to another bonfires or sacrifices are common. In the past the Druid’s were given many allowances so they could see into the future to see if the supplies would last the winter. By October the last of the crops would have been harvested. The livestock was slaughtered and salted ready for the Winter. A small supply of breeding stock was kept back for the coming year. The Druids were responsible for looking into the future to see how the coming Winter would go. They sated themselves on meet and blood to bring on visions. Traditions around nuts and apples for divination at this time are many, but the most famous probably being bobbing for apples and seeking your true loves names in the peel of an apple. http://www.tairis.co.uk/index.php?option......Itemid=8 But the green man links to many other topics. Any fertility or nature god can be brought in. May Day parades have the Jack in the Green. Robin Hood, the Green Knight of Arthurian legend, John Barleycorn, Puck/Robin Goodfellow, Peter Pan are all easy connections. As an archetypal figure there is no end to places you’ll find connections. The three hares often appear close by in churches. You have examples of green men across Europe, in Borneo, Nepal, India and Mexico. So for magic you’ve got elements of ritual magic you can link the theme to sacrifices, go for a bit of fire or water magic, changing water colour fitting with the changing seasons, Lotta bowls for the unending cycle or birth/rebirth. You’ve got links to divinations. There are green man tarots, but personally I’ve never like the look of any. But you could easily make a basic oracle system out of acorns, fir corns, etc applying meaning to peoples choices. Alternatively a basic set of wooden runes would fit nicely. Roni on reading has a method for giving tree readings similar to astrology (available through the Mystic Menagerie website). |

The Green Man is the symbol of Spring and Vegetation. With a little imagination, it isn't difficult to find magical ideas aroud the theme. (A Green Leaf may appear somewhere where the Green Man's presence is supposed; plant may grow at unnatural speed - think about the Indian Mango Tree; a pollution can be strangled by lianas...)

If you decide to go with a Celtic or Druidic feel, then check out my effect 'The Veil of Annwn' which Dan tells me will be in the upcoming issue of Mystic Menagerie.
All is perceived through the gate of the mind.
